Back in the day I went to a class and then drove with a instructor for so many hours .
My grandson that lives with me says now a lot are doing a on line course and then going to take the written test . Is this how it works now ?

I believe that is an option, but he has to keep a log of road time with a licensed driver if I remember correctly

My 3 all did a home taught with logged driving sessions. I've heard they are going away from the driving test though.

My daughter did the home taught method. Had to log so many hours with a licensed parent driver. Had to take the written exam but not the driving test.

Pretty much this.

when they exclude you, insult you,

My daughter did the online course as well. Had to take the driving test and parallel park. That was Monday this week, she passed.

Did my test in a 2500 diesel.. I'll never forget the dudes face when he saw that thing after seeing Priuses all day...

And yes I parrell parked... Only points taken off the whole test was like 3 because apparently at an intersection "I turned too wide.?" I'm sorry that unlike most of these kids, I've grown up driving trailers and goosenecks, so yeah maybe I did turn a bit wide. Either way.... That was fun in that 3/4 ton lol

way too easy these days to get a license, steering wheel holders is what ya get, not drivers.

no parallel parking?

we had to take it in high school, no choice.

drove a ford ltd 4 door mostly but had to do 2 sessions in a vw for our standard transmission. regular class, only about 12 of us in mine. had a state trooper come in and talk to us about driving laws and had a bunch of really graphic photos of wrecks he showed us, the how not to do it part. kids today have it way too easy.

As mentioned, they still have to have hours in the drivers seat with a licensed driver, although obviously the DMV has no way to verify this. Honestly, we'd all be better off if they had to take a formal class taught by professionals whose job it was to teach these kids to drive responsibly. Parents are giving kids phones, expensive cars, etc., so it's not like they can make any reasonable argument that they're looking out for the kids or the public's best interests - they're just giving the kids what they want.
