Who still has them? I gave mine up about 8 years ago. Moved to a new house, had it added just for a fax machine for work. Never gave the number to anyone, and it wrang all the time. I think my mom is the only one I know who still has one, but she is old school.

Nope. Not in years.

I have a cell phone land line, does that count?

It was cheaper then the hard line land line that we were using.

May you be treated the way you treat other people, today and everyday!

Have it through FIOS service at home. We have cordless handsets so that we don't have to rely on cellphones in the house, but we don't give thehome number out to anyone.

Still rings alot with telemarketers. When I'm in a mood, I answer and have fun with them.

Our cable / internet provider requires us to have a land line, even though it's a fiber optics system. We don't even have a phone plugged in, so just a $20 a month rip off by ETEX.

I have a special emergency access land-line at no additional cost along with my DSL service; it can receive calls, but only originate calls to toll free numbers or 911. Having the landline avoids the necessity to recite an address for emergency services when calling for them. I figure I won't be able to, and my wife would be in freak-out mode if she had to make such a call.

Sort of.

My Wife's parents got a phone line in 1956(?) and kept it when they moved from one house to another here in Greenville. When my Wife's Mom died and we remodeled the house my Wife kept the line is case old friends wanted to call or someone tried to get in touch.
In the past five years the physical lines to, and in, the house kept screwing up and the phone didn't work more than it did. Last month my Wife had a brilliant idea. She went and got a new iphone and got the house line number for it.
$10.00 a month for an additional line on the cell account is a lot cheaper than what a traditional land line was.

I haven’t had one since 2001. My parents and in-laws do. My boss still does, but he is thinking about getting rid of it. We both work from our homes but I’ve never had one even since I’ve been working from home.

Same here. It was needed for fire alarm notification to the FD when I bought the house. Can you even get the FIOS package without the land line?

I don't remember exactly how many years ago I got rid of it but I will definitely remember the 6 month battle with ATT. When it was over I was ready to have nothing to do with ATT. They kept telling me that I had to keep the land line to have internet service all the while they were offering internet to new customers without a land line. I wrote an email to Dave Lieber at the DMN. He has had lots of dealings with ATT. I thinks he ranks them worst for customer service. He has met with the CEO on the subject. Dave got me a special ONE TIME use direct line to a manager. All of this just so that ATT could keep my $30/month for something I never used. The only calls I ever got were telemarketers. Last time i talked to my brother he was hanging on to his.

I finally dropped ours. We kept it for when we lost our cell phones, we could call it and run around the house hoping to hear the cell phone ringing. We kept it off the hook and would have to hang up and wait at least 20 seconds to be able to use it. When I went to drop it, I called Spectrum and they asked for our password. I said when I picked this land line up 20 years ago it was with Verizon and my password was Claude Balls. They could not confirm it so they refused to cancel it. I said that's funny, when did it switch from Verizon to Spectrum and they said about 2 years ago. I went on to ask how they did this without my permission. They said they had my permission, I said no way. Any how - this went on for at least 30 minutes and they said that they couldn't cancel my service because I didn't give them my password. I said how could I found out my password and they said I'd have to give them the account number. I said I don't even get a bill in the mail as we pay it online auto draft. It was like pulling teeth to get them to drop the service.

Wife's heart doctor finally upgraded his heart monitoring stuff so she doesn;t have to hold a phone to her heart. Used the ole squark, brrrqqq, bzzzzzzzz fax machine sound.
Could probably get rid of it.

That was a problem we had as well. I finally told Frontier to stop the service and pull the landline. With the cells, the telemarketers are not as bad. If we see a number we don't recognize we don't answer it. If they leave a message fine, if not that is fine too. We are happy with just cell phones.

Just like AT&T these companies don't want to cancel residential land lines that are gravy money and almost pure profit. I have a real nice wireless phone set and an answering machine. I want to trash it all but hold off thinking maybe some day someone will want it.

The Wife insists we have one. But when we switched to Spectrum for cable and internet I got the package that included their "land line" for $10/month. She still calls it a land line but is starting to suspect something is up when the internet goes out and the "land line" also quits.

Still have one. Telephone company ran new overhead lines in the area last summer and they came by Wednesday to say they were going to hook us up in a couple of weeks.

We dropped the land line about 12 years ago, but we had used that number for a home-based business my wife has so we ported the number over to her cell phone so she never missed a business call.

When we got Spectrum cable for TV and internet the deal came with a land line connection. As soon as they installed it I called and cancelled it so no extra charge for something we would never use. Still got the same deal though.

I was considering dropping it until this last year .

At 2:30 in the morning I was awakened by someone beating on my side entrance door . Shouted out "who the fudge is it? " in my loudest voice . Sheriff's department . I ordered the kid (might have been mid-20s) to the front door . Honestly not sure who was more scared . roflmao

Turned out to be a wiring problem in a a relay but I'm glad they found me so quickly . Not sure if they can trace a cel that fast .

I cancelled long distance and caller ID but I think I'll hold on to the land line for now .

I have a red one that sits under glass

call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

Got five (yes, 5) into the house but only one is active for the phone. Been so many years don't remember when we had the single LL replaced (disconnected at both ends, the wires are still there) with the 5 line. Sometime back in the 80s. Had to get a 2d LL for the computer and the only option was them putting in the 5 line cable. Soon as rural wireless was available we jumped on board. Whenever I get around to retiring we'll drop the LL and be just cellular.

Interesting side note to the OP question. Found out after my widow mother died that the local Baby Bell kept her on a 4-party line (remember party lines and pre-dial telephones?) some 12-15 years after they did away with party lines. She was the last in the state that had a party line although there weren't any other parties on the line.
