Very sorry to hear, J.P. and Elizabeth. Scruff was an awesome dog!

Elizabeth asked me last night if I thought we did all we could. I told her yes, without a doubt. Yesterday was the first day he seemed like he was actually in pain. The last 4-5 days he took a turn for the worse, but yesterday was bad. I took him to the vet and waited in the room for about 30 minutes since we didn't have an appointment. He winced a number of times while I was cradling him in my arms. When I laid him on the table for the doc to examine him, he lasted about another 5-10 minutes then gently passed. I am so glad we didn't have to euthanize him. He went on his own terms.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Yall did all you could. He was loved and had a happy life with yall. I know it is tough. My lab is getting older and I am dreading the day I have to say goodbye to my friend. Just be happy you were blessed with him

Find solace in that he went on his own terms. Of course you did all you could. And then some!
