I kept 15 nice crappie yesterday that I caught on submerged timber in 30’ to 32’ of water. Fished the same area last weekend and saw a lot more fish in the deep water. All 15 of the crappie I kept yesterday were females, not a single male. Water temp went up from 49 last weekend to 52 yesterday. My guess is the deep water winter bite is about over with. Maybe the migration has begun. Anybody else seeing a similar pattern?

It depends on where you are. This is usually about the time I start to see them move a little bit. Usually water temps hitting mid 50s is a good good time to look for fish in staging areas between 10-25’. I doubt they’re making a major push here in north Texas because it hasn’t really warmed up at all.

I found them staged up in the creek channel near shallow water yesterday.

They are about to make a push shallow. Looks like next week if the forecast holds. Some will tell you to wait till April LOL.

Y'all have posted some good info..... Also know they don't all go shallow at the same time so there will always be some deep and I prefer deep close to the spawning grounds as it will always hold fish........
