We put in at Kimball Bend this morning about 9:00. Curious to see if the whites had made it up the river. I have only tried white bass fishing up the river twice and both times were a bust. We couldn’t find any concentrations of white bass after looking for 1.5 hours. Decided to head down south to look on some deep water points like we have fished and had success on all winter. First deep water point we came to between Katy Bridge and White Bluff we found them in 35’ FOW. Spot locked over them and turned the thumper on. Caught and released over 50 HUGE white bass and one legal striper in 1.5 hours. Someone on TFF helped me with info on tying a Thump Buddy about 18” above the slab, I can’t remember who but thanks for the info. That was the trick today. Had a number of doubles and probably 1/2 of the fish hit the Thump Buddy vs the slab.

Great stuff! How is it putting in at Kimball Bend Park? I looked on the map and that’s pretty far up the Brazos. Would it be safe to navigate from there to main lake in a center console?

Kimball Bend is just fine. I have a 21’ fish and ski with a 200 HP and had no trouble. Just make sure you have a good map for your GPS that shows the river channel.

Its safe launching at Kimball, but I'd recommend launching at McCown for main lake access.

Great report. Thank you! I haven't been out in 3 weeks. I have this next Sunday marked on the calendar to fish all day!!! Taking my Dad out for his birthday. So...what do you think the trend will be? We have need successful on deep water points all winter. Last time we went we found them between the boat ramp at Steele and The fallen cliff at white bluff. We caught a pile of huge whites. With mixed reports of striper in the river. What do you think it will be like in a week. With warmer weather all week will they continue to move up the river or stay piled up on structure......Also...Where are all the striper....lol.... I have caught a few mixed in with whites but just haven't marked a solid school of striper that I could get to bite!

Went out this morning for about 3 hours and found them on the same spot as last Saturday. Caught and released 48 big whites, 3 legal striper and a big catfish. 1/2 of the fish including one of the striper hit the Thump Buddy tied above the slab. I checked all of the spots I caught fish this winter and none were holding fish. The point I was on was north of where I fished this winter. The fish were about 5’-10’ shallower than last Saturday. Tells me they are getting ready to spawn as the water is warming up.
