Happened across it today before NASCAR. Both guy's bowling with two hands. Looked very weird/awkward.
New style? What would be the advantage?

I’ve also seen this increase the last few years, and also seeing it in the alleys during leagues from some youngsters-

New Style allows for more spin and speed. IMO it’s got to be hard on the leading knee and back.

Jason Belmonte has ruled bowling for the last 12 years with his two-handed style. He has changed bowling forever. He won today for his 12th Major, he dominates the Pro Tour..!!

Way more revs. More revs means more pin action.
Taking your thumb out of the ball first showed up on the scene in Taiwan about 25 years ago but those guys were doing it with one hand. We called it "creepy style".
it was initially frowned upon and then guys started kicking our butts doing it. About 15 years ago we started seeing guys use both hands like you saw on television today.
it is very hard on your body. Those guys you see doing it will not be bowling professionally in 10 or 15 years. whereas with a more traditional approach guys could just be hitting their stride in their careers in their 40s and 50s.
Making a ball break or "hook" with your thumb in the ball takes a lot of practice. It is not easy to do. If you take your thumb out of the ball it's a lot easier. I think that was the appeal to a lot of younger bowlers. That and the tremendous revs generated and just how hard you could smash the pocket.

"two-handed" is taking over pro bowling,...3 of the 5 on TV today were two handers,...The younger bowlers coming up are all using two hands... makes me sick...Belmonte is dominate, no one can beat him, all the contemporary bowlers hate him, and what he has brought to bowling,... but he's the fan favorite,..and has brought a lot of youngesters back to bowling,...

Man I remember earl, that 2 handed thing is sooo far away from his kind of delivery- He ruled that left side line back in his day- I was bowling in a pro-am at forum bowl in Grand Prairie in the early eighties, long time pro Gary Dickenson was my partner, and that horny old dude tried hitting on my wife- I had always admired him watching him on TV for years, but that deflated my opinion of him, he got pretty sauced up too, it was no surprise he didn’t do well that week-

Jim
A lot of what we're seeing has to do with oil patterns and the viscosity of the oil itself. In the late 90s thru about 2008 I was a scratch bowler averaging anywhere between 210 and 220 depending on the house, if they put the same oil out and similar patterns today but they did back then these two handed guys could not move far enough left. It would never work.
As balls became more aggressive and would rev higher, the houses started getting damage to the lanes. So they increased the viscosity of the oil and started changing the patterns in a way that would reduce the friction and thus reduce the damage to the actual surfaces of the lanes.
The equipment that I used wouldn't move two inches on today's oil and the patterns they put out.
I've contemplated getting back into bowling, but watching what's going on with the sport I think I'd rather go fishing LOL

I like to drink beer at bowling alleys
call it what you will...he is not definitely not anywhere near the top of the list for QB's that I would choose needing a FG or touchdown drive late in the game.

That's awesome man! I'm pretty sure nobody over the age of 35 or so is bowling with two hands LOL. I've tried it back in the day just screwing around and it's physically demanding. I do miss bowling. It's good fun. Hope you shoot an 800!

Love bowling. I bowl with my thumb out as well and get quite a bit of rotation, however I'm not very accurate. On any given bowl it may end up gutter right, strike, over rotate and only contact one or two pins on the left, or just gutter left, but the daughter and I enjoy it, fun times.
