I was fishing today with an old timer today (who used to guide up in Viking country in the olden days). I fished with spoons and small soft-plastics, watching livescope. They were chasing shad and were generally interested in the lures, but no commitments. John switched to a 1/16th oz maribou jig and brought them in one after another. Of course, after watching him catch 3, I offered him $5 for one of those jigs; but he let me borrow one. We killed them; catching 23 total in about 3 hours. 5.7lbs, 4.5lbs, many over 3. I would have never thought of trying that. Thanks John!

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

That's awesome! I remember the float n' fly with a small hair jig won a big tournament on Lake Austin this time of year some years ago.

Excellent trip Tim. Thanks for sharing and seeking out the Old Timers to learn a thing or two. Their knowledge will be lost forever if we don't hurry.

I bought some of those and can't find them to save my life! Good job

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

Old timers are where the knowledge resides. I’m trying to get as much as I can from them...
Tim

So hard to do sometimes, but you gotta remember those small lures. Thanks, tim

Nice fish. Question, are you sure that is a 1/16 oz jig? A 1/16 oz is tiny and the head on that jig looks bigger compared to the head on that fish. Looks like the two of you had a fantastic day after switching to the small jig.

Small jigs will always catch a few.

Luke 6:22-23

22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you, insult you,
and slander your name as evil
because of the Son of Man.

23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy. Take note—your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets.
