Started a fun little project this weekend. Converting this old Dilly to a 6-kayak hauler....I'm curious to see how this turns out...

You get out of it what you put into it!

Nice! Are you going to use rubber or padding on the bars?

Fenders...yes...we removed them to treat the rust and paint the frame...soon as we're done with all welds we'll finish painting and then paint or dip the fenders and re-attach

Padding...yes...once we're done painting we'll pad all the rails and anything else a kayak might touch....just set my Bonafide on there to check the fit.

Still got quite a bit to do, but we wanted to see how far we could get before the weekend was up...

Really good work here and lots of capacity, too.

Man, that is one heck of a nice trailer, great job! You are motivating me to take on a shark trailer project.

Great work!

Do you plan on a shallow storage bin or two under the bottom yaks?

Great looking project! That certainly makes it easier to load/unload and keep your stuff locked down and safe.

Yes...not exactly sure how but we're going to use that space...perhaps a couple of PVC rod holders on one side and a long box on the other. The larger space is 7" x 20" so something 8ft long might hold a good bit. Also making a 4'x3' basket for the tongue for ice chests/storage bins/etc...

I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product, very nice!

Definitely “made in america” , back in the ‘80’s I worked at the only plant that dilly made those dilly trailers-
I’ve been a part of both assembling them and later, I was on the road selling them-
It’s nice to see you resurrecting the old girl-

I've got one of your Dilly Trailers that my 83 14' Sears Gamefisher rides on.
Trailer which was galvanized, still to this day doesn't have any rust.

Just one more cast!

Cool Jimbo-
cheers
The timing of this thread is ironic, I’m about to be around a large number of old dilly trailer folks next Monday and Tuesday-
The man who owned dilly trailers in the ‘80’s died a few days ago and there will be a lot of old dilly folks there at the viewing/funeral-
Glad to hear there still a few dilly’s running around-
