I have a 2 man boat and a ford expedition I want to know is there anyone that hauls their boat and how do you do it. I am not wanting to buy a trailer to put the boat on. For the few time I want to take this boat it not worth $400 for the trailer and $75 for the tag each year. any suggestions welcome. Most of the time I will be by myself.

If you have a trailer hitch and the boat is not too heavy, something like the following link is cheap and can be altered so that it might work for you..

There are also more expensive electric winch versions of car-top boat loaders which work with heavier boats.

Another way to do it, if the boat isn't too heavy, is with a U-Haul rental trailer- as the smaller open sizes are fairly cheap to rent for a day. You might need to built yourself a reusable and removable cradle that fits on top of the U-Haul and also mates with the hull of your boat. Maybe use a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood and stack your boat on top with the hull inverted. Several ratchet straps will keep everything in place, until you want to return the trailer.

I think I going to get a bed extender. I have put the boat inside the back before and it hang out, the ext. will support the over hang. There no way I could put it on the roof, ( i am 73 and not as strong as I use to be), 10 years ago I could.
When I get it I will do some photos to show how it looks and works. Thanks for the help.

This is the ideal way to go. I owned an Explorer in the past and had difficulty loading 2 kayaks on top, but no room at home for a trailer. So I would rent Uhaul or Home Depot trailers for about $25 per day.

The smallest U-Haul trailers in my area still rent for $15 a day, but they may require mandatory insurance nowadays, which might run the cost a little higher.

IMG_1634.MOV I don't know if video will come up.

I her done, found out how to remove rear seats head rest, my driver seat want move. Now this is a 8 foot boat and I think a 10 footer would work this way also.
