I have it, not sure how it ranks on the severity scale, but it’s there. Too much AC/DC, zep, sabbath, etc cranked too loud in my youth. I just deal with it, I’ve heard there isn’t much that can be done other than Xanax, and I ain’t taking that junk

Yep, I've had it for years. Worked in an elementary school and was assigned lunch duty. 1000+ students screaming at the top of their lungs three hours a day for 13 years was unbearable.

+1. It never quits, just varies in how loud it is.
Me too.

Timely post. I'm off to the ENT for hearing test after lunch. Always with me. Easily ignored during the day but any time I stop to think about it it's there. Different frequencies left and right ears. Years - decades - ago when I was first tested I was told I had boilermaker ears from the unheard high frequency noise in the tool room. Doc couldn't do anything about it then, doubt today's visit will do more than put a few $ in his pocket.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

I'm glad all you guys responded to this post . I also have the ringing in my ears and have wondered if it could be fixed but I don't trust the doctors to tell the truth since they seem to all be driven by dollar signs .

I'm enjoying the nice ringing in my ear as I read this thread. Doesn't seem to bother me anymore, it's just always there.

I got my ringing in both ears when I got put on the daily aspirin, the ENT called it aspirin induced tinnitus. He also said the MD's should not put everyone on the same dose (81mg) as someone weighing 150 pounds and someone at 250 pounds will handle it differently. Some days are worse than other, usually really bad on a low pressure, cold front day.

This. If the TV is on and my wife is talking to me, I cannot understand neither the TV or her. She got mad at me because I wouldn't make eye contact with her. No, I was turning my head so I can better understand what she was saying. Nothing like having a 1000 buzzing mosquitoes flying around inside your head all the time. Luckily my brain will tune it out most of the time. That is until I open a thread about tinnitus and it's back....

I've had it for at least 15 years, but as my hearing got worse the tinnitus got worse. The VA Audiologist told me that basically my tinnitus is my brain reacting to not getting any input at certain frequencies due to the hearing loss. Since the brain isn't getting a signal at say 4000 hz it creates its own signal which is the tinnitus. I can't sit in an absolutely quiet room because the ringing drives me nuts. I always have TV or radio on in the background, even at work. My hearing aids have helped, and they have a tinnitus program to them that helps as well.

I've had it going on 30 years now. Went and had a hearing check at the doctor and he said that i cannot hear any high frequencies. It really irks my wife when i can't hear the fire alarm beeping when it needs a new battery. banana

An audiologist told me it is caused by the loss of the tiny minuscule hairs located in the inner ear. When they are destroyed for whatever reason, the ringing starts. I think he said at this time it is irreversible with current technology, can only be accommodated mechanically some way.....YMMV. I have two different frequencies ringing all the time, silence is truly loud! Good luck.

Have had it for thirty years probably from playing loud music. It worried me when first diagnosed as I was still a performing classical musician. Within a year, I adjusted to it and never noticed it unless I concentrated on it. It is always present but not noticed any longer.
