Can only afford one. Will be used for 3/8 oz chatterbaits and up to 1/2oz spinnerbaits mostly BUT ideally could throw a jerkbait or medium topwater from time to time. I already have the 704cb for my squarebills/smaller cranks and love it. Most of my fishing is pitching around cover so the shorter 705 sounds better but for longer casts and heavier baits (after adding the trailers) I think I am liking the sounds of the 736.

I have a 7'3" chatter bait rod and I am thinking abut getting a 6'10"-7' footer. A lot easier for me to skip under tree limbs, boat docks, etc with a little shorter rod.

I would def look more at the DC 705CBMF GLASS just because the action is a little slower and to me, especially with bigger fish, my hook up ratio is a lot better with a slower action rod...

The 736CB is what you absolutely want to for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits but it won't throw your jerkbaits very well at all. Medium TW occasionally can be done. The 705 will do the jerkbait, TW and chatterbait well but might be slightly overloaded on the spinner bait and might be difficult to get a good hookset with the larger hook on a spinnerbait. These are my opinions - pick what feels right for you. I would do the 705 since this rod can do more treble hook baits than what you have listed and you might have another MH graphite rod that can handle spinnerbait duty in a pinch.

704cb is perfect for jerk baits for me. I prefer the 704c or 703c for any single hook moving baits. Plenty of strength in the 704 for sure. Easy to make accurate casts. I donโ€™t find myself needing to bomb a spinner or chatter very often.

You definitely want the 736 for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. It was specifically designed for those applications. Your 704 should serve just fine for most jerkbaits. Mine does! :-)

I have been looking at Dobyns for quite some time. Like that they are made in Sulphur Springs, TX. USA and from what I understand they have great customer service and warranty claim follow up (if needed).

For the line that is labeled 'GLASS' are those true fiberglass or are they composite? I use a rod that I have had for 35 years that is fiberglass and fish all topwaters and spinnerbaits with. I have been looking to upgrade and go a bit longer so interested to learn more.

Who around Dallas carries a decent stock of Dobyns rods? Or Tyler. I'll be in Tyler tomorrow and could take a look.

736 glass for chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. It's also a really good plopper rod. The 704cb(graphite) is what i use for my jerkbaits and it handles them nicely.

They are a composite. I can't remember the exact blend of graphite to glass but I own three different glass rods. I fish Texoma a bunch and you're welcome to try one if you'd like.
