I wanted to create this thread for anyone that wanted to post updates on the white bass run at the Neches River at Chandler hiway 31 bridge. Also for anyone that has any info on the kill off in Lake Palenstine, as to how and how many fish were affected and how the catch will be affected. Should be getting close to time for them to start running!

Went last Saturday. Fished for about 4hrs and had no luck. Still a little to early I guess. Most people I spoke with weren’t having any luck either. There were probably about 7 or 8 boats out there. I few people fishing on the bank.

Usually last week in february around hwy 31. Seems like last 4 or 5 years have not been that good for me. Didn't go last year. Used to limit out quick.

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

I am thinking that the sand bass have not fully recovered from the big fish kill we had a few years ago I may be wrong.

DWade...I didn't fish, but I went through there on Hwy 31 late yesterday [Saturday 2/22]. There were only a few boats in and a few walking the banks. The Neches is out of its banks right now. It isn't all the way up to the parking lot as I have seen it in past years, but it is high. I would think it has reached its crest by now, but not sure about that. This is only my opinion, but I think it may be a little early yet. The water temp is not up yet and while sand bass like the inflow current, this may be too much inflow. The fish may still be holding on the main lake. The weather forecast for this week doesn't look too bad, but cool temps. So we may still have to wait awhile for any major run to start. I am anxious to give it a try, but I'm going to wait and see if the weather settles down.

SFA81... few weeks ago when me and Dwade were there on the same day it was high out of the banks but i would think for sure since then it would go way down even with the little rain we’ve gotten. I heard reports from Thursday of last week that the level was close to back to normal

Right...it wasn't extremely high Saturday, but still out of banks. I live in Henderson County and go through there when I'm on my way to Tyler. So I keep a regular check on the conditions there. We've had 8 to 9 inches of rain here in this area in the last two weeks. I think we're out of the rain pattern for a few days so it the Neches should recede back pretty soon. I still haven't heard if the sandies are running yet or not. If they are, there weren't many out there trying to catch them.

I would try to get as close to the lake as possible. Especially if they haven't ran in the river far up yet. Any chartreuse jig, small spinner bait, or small crankbait, road runners have always worked great for us as well. Good luck

Went yesterday caught several yellow strip bass and a few sand bass. Seen some people by the 31 bridge catching some sand bass too. It must just be a matter of a few days of nice weather before they turn on, I hope.
