I fished Newman Bottom from 5:00 PM to 6:45 PM. I thought I was going to have to go to emergency room for third degree burns because the fishing was on fire flame

The first spot I stopped at I started drifting the magical clouser and immediately caught 4. I tried a 1/32 ounce fly with no luck. Then a 1/64 ounce fly with no luck. So I went back to the clouser and caught 10 more in that spot. I started moving downstream and started catching fish at every spot I stopped at. It was crazy fun. I ended up catching 34.

Finally, it felt like a Yegua creek white bass run.

Glad to hear it's picking up!
If you don't mind me asking... What does this magical clouser look like?

Size 8 streamer hook / weighted with bead chain (like the chain on a lamp) on top so the fly rides hook up / white & gray bucktail with smolt blue flash. You can google clouser for a common example.

Its about 2 inches, the same size as the shad I see people netting in the creek. Its a very thin profile.

For me personally, I catch most of my white bass as the fly is falling. So the presentation can be anything from a slow drift just keeping the line tight, to small twitches to slow the fall and provide action, all the way to violent strips and pauses.

Thanks for the info! Might have to try my hand at tying some flies! I've only got some store bought white chartreuse clousers that I think are much heavier than what you described.

Looks like the lake has made it back up to pool level (238) . I hope that means the creeks got a good flush of fresh water. The weekend weather is going to be cool but fairly nice for February. I just might see you all on the creek if I can get away...

Went down to Newman’s yesterday afternoon and it was on fire. I fought the rain and mud but ended up finding the fish. I left with 20 white bass all over 13 inches, let 5 go that were right at 10 inches to grow up some more, and lost 3 big ones during the fight. Out of the 5 other trucks only one other guy caught a good amount and he left with about 20 also. The fish were super picky and only wanted a specific lure action. One thing I noticed was 18 of my 20 whites were males. All in all in was a good day.

Curious, What kind of lure did the picky fish take? I threw everything I had at them last time. Even my store bought clouser fly didn't work.

Went out today (2/21) around 10 AM after fishing nails in the morning. Seemed like a slow day for everyone on NB. Didn't manage to get anything.

I throw the clousers on the flyrod though some of the ones I tie with lead dumb bell eyes I suppose could be used with an ultralight set up.
