I'm wanting to mount a side imaging transducer on my jackplate. Any issues that I need to be concerned about. Pros and cons please.
Thanks in advance!

Very common application with a separate 2D transducer at the hull bottom or as a shoot-thru.

The best attachment is in the center of a hole shot plate, second best is on the side of the jack plate with a hole shot plate, third best is on the side of the jack plate with no hole shot plate.

Side Imaging "sees" to the sides, so if the bottom of the jack plate is open, you will be recording echoes from inside of the opposite side of the jack plate. This is what that looks like:

Yeah, this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Best place for it IMO. I don't have a pic of mine handy, but I bought a cutting board and cut a piece to fit in the channels of the jackplate, secure it to the JP with SS screws, and then mounted the transducer to it. It comes out of the water when running, but I run a dual x-ducer setup on my H-bird so the second one gives me depth when on plane.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space!

I did not have any previous holes to use in my jackplate, and I could not drill a hole all the way though and not interfere with the lifting mechanism. I drilled a hole partly through the side of the jackplate and threaded the hole for the bolt I was using to mount the transducer bracket. ( I did not want to drill holes into the fiberglass to mount this transducer.) Images are crystal clear. Just make sure the signal has nothing blocking it from either side.

Thanks guys, I've seen videos of the transducer being mounting to the jackplate, just wanted make sure I wasn't going to cause any other issues...definitely didn't want to drill any holes into the fiberglass of the transom...

Help me understand, my boat does have a shoot-thru 2D transducer...can I still use it with my helix 7 G2 SI unit or should I just rely on the side imaging tranducer for 2D sonar?

Thanks, glad I read this. Couldn't figure out why I was getting echo's on one side only.

Thanks, I just placed an order for my jackplate. I needed 3 pieces...the shield, the bracket and an extension.

Must be a Skeeter installation
