Agree, I’d take Witten over Gates and Gronk. Gonzales was maybe the best TE ever.

Whitten at his best was an extra OL that could also function as a receiver threat. I would argue that he was probably more valuable to the running game than he was to the passing game.
I would also argue that his droppoff last year as a receiver was due as much to having a QB with a slow read, slow release, and can't hit a moving target as it was to an old guy losing a step.

You want to make him great cause he was a cowboy for much of your fandom and there isnt much else you have to show for it. Average TE on a below average team.

I just look at how he played and what he did for the team, I will agree about the below average team.

QB has nothing to do with how slow he runs now. He is beyond slow. His hands got worse as well plus his penalties seem to be up.

Shannon Sharpe - 204 games played - 815 rec - 10,060 yds - 62 TD
Jason Whitten - 255 games played - 1,215 rec - 12,977 yds - 72 TD
If Shapre is in the HOF how can Whitten not be, granted Sharpe has 3 rings which helps sway voters, but lack of rings isn't on Whitten. For what it's worth Whitten also ranks 4th all time in receptions, 19th is yards and tied for 40th in TD's.

Its been a consensus that he has been a top TE for the vast majority of his career through rankings, first team all pros, and the eyeball test. He is a HOF 100%, arguably top 4 TE all time and some will argue top 3. Im not sure if you are trolling or honestly believe he was avg.

Not really. You want to make that argument you have to actually divide it out into a per game basis. Their per game stats are basically identical. And if this is the comparison you want to make, then the guy that maintains the same stats for a longer period of time is the better of the two. Sharpe - 3.99 rec/game - 49.31 yds/game - 0.30 TD/game Whitten - 4.76 rec/game - 50.89 yds/game - 0.28 TD/game Yes, I am that sort of nerd.

True, but their numbers aren't far apart. Sharpe averaged 49.3 yds per game, Whitten 50.9, Sharpe 12.34 yds/rec, Whitten 10.68, Sharpe .304 TD's/game, Whitten .282. Just going off stats Whitten ranks toward the top all time. Coming back actually hurt his stats. COF beat me to it.

WAWI doesn’t like Witten because he wore orange in college and went to UT (Tennessee)
