Which lake would be the choice for flatheads and decent size blues?

We've been catching a few Blue at Canyon. Most fish are 2-6 lbs but we been getting some 6-10 lbr. I've been fishing deeper 25-50 fow. Liver and Fresh Shad (if you have or can find it) 4-8 bites a morning is average. It's Canyon....... FI
I'm a humble fisherman in the service of our Lord. Started fishin at 5 years old and can't stop. I've owned a boat every day from age 16. I fish for every type of fish in every different way.

Haven't fished Canyon in a long time but it's a lot like Travis. Deep really clear water. Does have a lot of timber tho that could be a place to start. Granger isn't worth the trip. That has to be the most overfished catfish lake in Texas. For the longest time seemed like everytime I stop by the store in Circleville somebody was either showing off a 30-40 lb blue or had a new picture of one hanging up. You can't repeatedly take those size fish out of a small lake without doing a lot of damage.
You get out of it what you put into it!

Somerville will heat up in the spring. Only yellas I caught have been small. Released a 60lb blue a couple years ago. East end of the lake and around the islands. Canyon lake has steep drop offs and cliffs that will hold fish, also lots of flooded timber near the mouth of the river that will start to get good as it warms up
If I fished for money.........I'd be broke.
In a world of compromise.....Some don't.

Back in "the day" I had decent luck on blue cats on Canyon close to the mouth of the Guadalupe. Live and cut bluegill. I never could find shad at any size out there so I would just catch perch close to the Cranes Mill Marina or catch a few carp up around Rebecca Creek.

Buchanan is the probably the best bluecat fishery on your list. It’s a good bluecat lake and has some toads in it too. Most striper lakes are good Bluecat fisheries. Choke Canyon is good too but the fish are smaller.

100% agree with El Gato Azul on the choice of lakes. He hit the nail on the head.

I still catch all I need at Granger. I admit I've never caught a blue at Granger over 15 lbs., but I'm not really looking for big blues when I'm out there anyways. I will be out there in the next few weeks. hopefully its not as bad as everyone is saying on here.
