Figured I would share my PB Bull Red caught back in October in the Port Arthur area. I took my son for his very first dedicated surf fishing trip. The weather couldn't have been better the first day we were there. the man child landed over thirty fish on the small double drop setup using fishbites, which proved to be the magic potion to invoke a fishing fever of epic proportions! in all, he caught over thirty fish, landing such species as gafftops, croaker, whiting, trout and some rat reds. by days end, I haven't even received a decent bite on my large setups, but seeing the excitement on his face was all I needed.
Day two arrives.....
the weather was starting to deteriorate as day two began. a strong cold front was moving in, and the water was as dirty as I have seen it. we moved positions closer to camp in case the weather decided to get ugly, and set up shop. My son continues on his tear by landing fish after fish, while my rods were looking sad, lonely and neglected. after a brief shower, the water calmed. My son is reeling in what seemed to be his 900th fish when my Tica gets a strong tug and goes slack. I calmly walked over to it and reeled in gingerly in case something did pick up the nice chunk of whiting I had put on. BEHOLD! hooked up! the fish freaks out and starts running, and I oblige to let it do so. after a good fight, the beast is landed and much to my joy and excitement, i have landed my biggest Bull Red by far. Released safely and the big bull swam off strong. moments later, the weather reared its ugly head, thus ending our trip.
Overall, a very exciting trip that proved to be memorable for my son and myself, and granted me the joy to see this sport bring a smile an excitement to him as well.
