“Personnel is the most vital and important aspect of any industry. If you’re just going to grind them up, it’s not going to end well for anybody.” SCOTT REINARDY
Here is a video that details how to fly fish without a fly rod using two methods - Bubble Fly Rigs and Spoon and Fly Rigs.
The Bubble Fly Rig is a proven method for fishing flies use a bubble float cast with a spinning rod and reel. It targets fish feeding on the surface, just under the surface, and in the upper part of the water column
The Spoon and Fly Rig is not as well known and limited information can be found online. But, it has been a consistent fish getter for those situations where fish are in the lower part of the water column, actively feeding on baitfish and other "tasty morsels"!
Do give them a try and keep them at the ready when fish flies are the go to pattern but you don't have a fly rod, still learning to cast one, or the situation warrants spinning gear over a fly fishing gear!
Went to Murphy townhall this afternoon to try for some of the freshly stocked trout. Fished a chartruse john deere with olive tail about 2 1/2 feet under a small corgs indicator on my 3wt. Had several light bites and caught a couple of trout. Added 1/2 of a small yellow trout nibble and bites increased dramatically. Lots of action on the indicator, but my hook rate was pretty low. Managed to get 4 more with this arrangement. Had my long crappie rod out with a yellow trout nugget suspended about 1 foot off the bottom and caught 4-5 on this. Watched the line and when went tight before the poll would register anything set the hook. By far this worked the best. Was a little windy at times but a pretty fun time for the 2 hours I was out today. Derby flyer indicated that tpwd made an exemption to allow those over 17 to fish from 11:30 to 4pm today and indicated that "Fishing after 4pm could result in a ticket from the game warden" Do not know if that applied only to those without a license or included those with a license. I decided to play it safe and quit fishing at 4.

Hi Ocelot, was there around noon. Trout were taking Near Deere with light strikes initially. Switched to a Near Deere with Rubber Legs... limited out and missed alot more.
The 4PM cutoff was for fishing without a fishing licence. Afterwards, fishing license required.
Update on today's fishing fun at Murphy City Complex Pond and McKinney Towne Lake. Trout derbies were held today; fished afterwards and was able to take a limit of trout. Made for a tasty dinner! Have video to post on the action today; will get it out sooner than later. For now, how about trout for dinner!
Made another trip up to Blue River today for some early morning fishing. I'm beginning to really like that place. Managed to catch two 13", two 14", and a 15" this trip.
redloon, Looks like you had a good day on the Blue River. Fish there are substantially larger than the stocker trout around the DFW area. Sure you had some fun with those. Nice job.
Yes, lots of fun and I didn't lose any at the bank since I had my new net with me this time. I picked the net up off of Amazon for something like $13. Extendable handle and it collapses down when not in use.. I baked up the 15" last night. Fresh fish - It doesn't get any better.

This video we mention two fishing flies... the Rubber Legged Near Deere and an Pearl Chenille Streamer. The Rubber Legged Near Deere worked well on stocked trout at two local ponds. The Pearl Chenille Streamer worked well on Striped Bass at Denison Dam as well White Bass on Lake Lavon. Do check out the video and the demo on how we tie the Rubber Legged Near Deere!
No fishing today but can host a quick livestream update. This round we talk about TRWD Flyfest - an annual event held on he banks of the Trinity River by the Acme Brick Company where Bruiser Trout are stocked for participants to catch! Also, we talk about the Near Deere Giveaway where we will randomly pick a winner. Good Luck!
Fished a new pond that was recently stocked with rainbow trout. Located in Sherman, Tx is Pebblebrook Community Park Pond. Last weekend a Trout Derby was held at Pebblebrook; we were not able to make it but we anticipated lots of trout would be on the prowl Saturday morning. They were... water was murky but the Rubber Legged Near Deere had them striking. Setting the hook in the time was another story though! No worries... was able to limit out. The Rubber Legged Near Deere and the Discount Switch Rod are fast becoming the Team's favorite combo for trout fishing ponds!
