big debate on another forum...someone quoted greg hackney as saying he carried 12-1300 lbs of tackle in his boat...most people are saying that is a huge exaggeration.. I think a lot of pros carry a spare trolling motor, extra prop,20-25 rod/reel combo plus tools and 15-30 plano boxes...not sure about 1200 lbs but I believe 700-800 lbs of tackle and other gear is possible...
for what it's worth,I sold my 18 1/2 ft Ranger recently and I didn't realize just how much tackle and misc stuff I had in that boat until I had to unload it...I pretty much had an 18 1/2 ft tackle box...

All I know is I just took a bunch of stuff out of my boat. Has to be at least 50-60 lb’s worth of tackle. It’s ridiculous how much carp I had in there. Couldn’t find stuff quick. So glad I took the time to do that.

I actually just recently weighed the tackle that I carry in my boat while trimming down the crappie baits that I carry.
My gf's guess was 95#s +, my guess was 75#s.
It came out to 70#s and 3 3/4 ounces.
That is soft baits, hard baits and terminal tackle.
That is a [censored] load of tackle.
I can break it down more for you if you want.

I usually start the year with nothing more than a back pack full of baits in the boat that weighs maybe 18 pounds and most of that is weights and heads. By the end of the year I bet I have 6-8 times that much, and 5 times as many rods and reels.
Lifejackets, anchors, ropes, tool kit, rain gear, and other small items probably equals another 80-100 pounds.
Thankfully the older I get the less I can make do with. The days are long gone where I had to bring everything I owned with me.

Just soft plastics late last summer I pulled 43lbs out of my boat, downsized and put 23 back in... that was nothing but plastics, no terminal tackle nor any thing else.

If I carried 100% of the tackle it’s 150#. Take what you are likely. To use it’s probably 40# or so.

I took out over 30lb of soft baits out last month. I gave a lot of it to a 14 year old who is just getting into bass fishing, made his day.
I have a soft tackle bag that I use if I go with my friends in their boat that had gotten over packed with stuff. I looked at some at Cabela's the other day that were on sale and though all I would do is carry more than I need.

this same problem exists in offshore as it does bass fishing...we carry waaaaay too much [censored] in the boat that rarely/never gets used. I started years ago taking one or two select trays of baits bass fishing depending on the lake and just 3 rods per person. Offshore, when I'm on someone else's boat, I bought a Yeti loadout bucket that I can carry everything I need without taking up too much room.

Maybe 250lbs... But I'll swap out stuff that I know I won't be using on a regular bases... Like when I head to the Ohio River I'll pull all my deep diving stuff and replace it with my shallow square bill and balsa flatsides... My winter baits (damiki lead heads and plastics) get pulled and replaced by plastics worms and flippin stuff I'll be using in the spring and summer... Dan
