Apparently I really need to watch this video of Ben getting schooled by J-Moe. 😉

Thinking of heading to the creek in the morning. Long overdue at this point.

All kidding aside watching J-Moe the "master of the fly" in his element is a real eye opener..
In the past I would have only my own skills to determine if the fish were there or not.
The last several trips up the Yegua if based only on what I could catch would have lead me to believe the whitebass were not there yet or at least in very low numbers..
Newmans opens and with lots of folks trying their luck but only a few being successful again would have me believing the whitebass were not up that far..
In steps J-Moe and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the whitebass are there at Newmans and even all the way up to Irwin..
We all owe fishermen like J-Moe a big wet fishy Thanks for being generous with his time and skill in showing us all how it is done on the Yegua!

There is nothing more humbling for a bank fisherman than to watch somebody walk up on a spot and start pulling fish in left and right after you've fished the same spot with zero luck. I'm sure J-Moe has humbled many a bank fisher. grin

In the past week the Middle Yegua creek rose a little over a half inch which has brought flow to the Yegua but has also muddied up the water. I struck out this morning at Irwin and only caught 1 sand bass at Newman’s. Most people I could see had 1-2 bass At Newman’s but not much else. Very frustrating day for me mad I debated whether or not to go today or Monday and right now Monday looks like it might be a good catching day.

If you didn't go this morning, you didn't miss much. Fished at and below Irwin. Saw a few caught at the bridge on minnows but nada on the fly rod. Good to meet you J-moe and jsinn. Nice sunny day so I'm sure they will fire up this afternoon.

Hey, nice meeting you too, PerksOutdoors. Definitely a slow day out there. I got excited when I caught my first white bass of the day within the first 10 minutes of fishing, but then nothing the rest of the morning. Just doesn't seem like the fish are there in large numbers yet.

My wife and I fished Irwin Bridge from 12-3 today. Wife caught two undersized. We moved to NB. Wife caught a big white. I got skunked. We saw J-moe and hollered at him. I asked him if he already caught 50 or 60. He said no. LOL. There were about 15 cars when we got there. I thought there would be more. We fished near the trailway bridge. Wife had minnows. I used road runners, jigs & rooster tails.

I didn’t see any big stringers come out. Most only had a couple. It was fun regardless. Got to see wife get excited over her big and first white of the season. We’ll be back soon. Maybe Monday.

Tight lines!

Nice Video HL&S.

My wife and I were at The San Gabriel "the steps" Sunday too. We got there about 2:30pm. 2 Keepers only. I caught my first WB of the season though. Yippee! It was a 13 incher which is big for this place. We went upstream; the opposite way from where HL&S and J-Moe went. Compared to Newman bottom, It is very green out there.

I fished San Gabriel "steps" a lot here in years past in my younger days. I've never fished Tejas. that Tejas water looked too clear to fish. Wow. Newman Bottom is easier for me these days, but it is almost 100 miles one way for us. However, now that the NB parking lot is open, long drive or not; I'll be back when the bite picks up. The Spawn is just starting. Hooray!

Tight lines All!
