A couple years ago all my fly fishing gear was stolen out of my garage including both rods in cases, waders, boots and my vest with probably 50 flies for every occasion.

I stopped fly fishing all together until my retirement this past year where I slowly have started accumulated some gear but was woefully short on flies.

Last weekend at the Texas Freshwater Fishery Center another fisherman and I got to talking about tying flies and he mentioned the Big Y. Prices are so reasonable I bought a dozen different flies to restart my collection.

Not the same as tying your own but didn’t have to go through the stocking up of materials and equipment.

Any of y’all buy from them and we’re you satisfied?

I've received a few as gifts from Big Y and also bought several different carp and bass/bluegill patterns from them. I almost always tie my own stuff, but when I moved next to a freshwater lake, I didn't know what was going to be good out on the lake so I got a variety of things from big Y. They are inexpensive. I haven't been crazy about every hook they use. The deer hair divers I got are on real light wire hooks, which I know some like to use for those patterns, but I prefer heavier wire like what is used on the Gamakatsu and Mustad stinger hooks. Some of the hooks seem a little soft, easy to bend open, maybe easier than they should be, but I'm more used to the forged carbon hooks often used in the saltwater and those hooks typically are harder to bend. I haven't ordered anything more, I've sort of figured out what the lake fish want.

Still, I think the ties I got were done well and seemed durable and to be a good value. A softer hook isn't the worst thing in the world as long as you know ahead of time what kind of pressure will open it up.

I haven't tried that company specifically, but I did buy some from Fly Shack, a similar online/discount vendor and found them to be very poor quality.

I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of flies from them. They arrive fast, and when they have occasionally sent the wrong flies, a quick email to them and they send the correct flies and let me keep the wrong ones no charge.

The only downside is the wife has threatened to steal my credit cards and destroy them if I don't quit buying them.

Big Y fly has quality flies at a great price and good selection. One of the best online options out there.

Well don’t you know I am out of town attending a 4 day seminar and my flies arrived earlier than expected and I can’t get to them until I get home Wednesday night!

I once thought I would really get into fly tying. I have enough equipment and materials to last for the next 50 years, but I may tie a dozen flies per year. The 3 sources from which I get most of my flies are CJ's Fly Box, Anglers Dream, and Big Y Fly Co. The majority of my fliies are purchased from Big Y. The prices are great; the quality is good; and they are pretty quick to arrive.

I tell you what if ya'll need flies I can go cheaper. I'd pass off more than a dozen or so for "take me fishing". I have a bunch ready to go everything from trout to bass and plenty of saltwater too. Only thing I don't really tie is poppers.

They tie their clouser minnows on very thin hooks. On more than one occasion I have hooked up with a decent size fish and had the hook break on me. Not bend or open up, but the hook broke at the J.

The fly is tied well, just on a thin cheap hook.

I know; cant believe that as there are hooks adequate strength that are equally cheap I tend to use salt water hooks for clousers like the infamous Mustad 34007 ten bucks for fifty is pretty darn cheap in my opinion. Mustad even has a stout bronze hook for clousers, though the number eludes me at the moment, that is even cheaper.

Got home Wednesday and tore open my package of flys like it was Christmas!
The flies looked great except I ordered 2 each black and olive bead head woolly buggers and they sent the non-beadhead variety. Called them and they put some in an envelope as we spoke and was mailing them right away. Said I could keep the others and wished me good luck!

Should be arriving by tomorrow. banana

I just ordered some recently and was very disappointed.
Many of them did not look like the photos on their website.
Colors were way off. In addition, they were shipped in a small flat padded envelope.
Several of the flies lost their profile as a result of it.
