Do the newer units still require the black box, or are they just the unit and transducer now? I wish I had a good way to mount a live scope to a rail on the side of my boat without wires having to run across the floor.

Bump for you I haven’t seen livescope on sale before!

Do you have any input on the Garmin Force TM? I would like to upgrade TM and graphs and can’t decide between an Ultrex linked to a pair of hummingbirds( one up front and another at the console) and a Garmin with livescope at the bow or a Force with a 12” Garmin up front and another Garmin at the console.

Livescope LVS12 does not require the GLS10 module on compatible units. However, the LVS12 Livescope transducer will only give you half of what you get on the LVS32 Livescope transducer with the GLS10 module. I recommend going with the LVS32 Livescope system with the module.

I like Garmin but I have to shoot it straight as that is simply how we do business and Garmin understands us and appreciates our honesty. The 1st generation Garmin Force is not yet complete with everything that Minn Kota or MotorGuide motors can do. The Garmin Force trolling motor is a very solid, quiet, and efficient motor. If you are looking to team the Force up with a compatible Garmin display and utilize the go-to feature you will have to wait for the 1st quarter software update to be released and it could, in fact, go into the 2nd quarter before it is released. The Force has the go-to feature but they did not include the arrival mode where the motor will gently, quietly anchor you down when you arrive at said waypoint you told the motor to go-to. Also, the shaft length is a bit misleading... the 50" motor is actually 45" and the 57" motor is actually 52". I had this motor on my boat and loved everything about it but the shaft length was to short for my boat and the missing arrival mode did not meet my style of fishing. I had Minn Kota on my boat before the Force all linked to my Humminbird unit for the go-to features with Livescope and a Garmin 1042xsv. Moving forward I have removed the Force and have installed Minn Kota back on my boat linked with Humminbird for the go-to features. I still have the Livescope and 1042xsv. In the end, it is ok to mix and batch to make your equipment fit your style of fishing. One day Garmin will have a trolling motor with the arrival mode and a longer shaft length to meat my style of fishing.
