Started Saturday morning about 9:30. Partly sunny, SSE wind, Water temps in Yegua were 54-56 in various places. Ran up the creek about half way to Newman's, didn't want to disturb any of the bank fishers already there. Fished a few holes only catching one small LMB on a grub. Worked my way back down towards Wolf Pond, Fished that area from there towards the main lake the rest of the afternoon. Live minnows under a slip cork 7-10 FOW in the bends. 4 decent cats, 2 very fat slab crappie and 9 whites all went into the livewell. Reports from folks along the way were about the same. Decent little morning bite, then nothing.

Went back out yesterday afternoon despite the weather predictions. Overcast, stiff South wind, spotty rain. Ran up Nails Creek just to see what it looked like. Fished a couple holes in the bends. Caught a nice cat on a minnow on a slip cork in 7-8 FOW. Water temps in Nails were 62, water clarity was the typical Nails creek color, brownish, slight flow. Gave that up, ran up Yegua close to Newman's. A few bank fishers downstream but not near the amount that was out Saturday. Water clarity and color was good, Water temps were 56-58. Fished deep holes downstream, picked up one nice WB on a grub, and another fat cat on a minnow. Went back to where I caught the majority of the fish on Saturday, 1 white, 1 crappie, 1 cat, from that hole.

The area got a little rain Sunday afternoon, but just enough to get the grass wet. Rain in the forecast for the rest of the week. Hopefully we will get a decent amount. Maybe next weekend will have a better bite. The full moon over the weekend didn't help the daytime bite much.

Good luck, tight lines. If you want to get up the creek and don't want to walk, hollar at me.

Nice job J-Moe and greenyak

I've never fished a white bass run before and am looking forward to heading up to Newman's soon and walking the banks looking for a few fish. Hopefully the area will get some decent rain the next couple of days to help bring some more fish up the creeks. Good luck everyone.

Don't know how much rain the creeks got down that way but if its anything like the thunderstorms we got last night into the wee hours of this morning it could be the bump needed to get things really moving down there.

It appears the upper end of the nails creek and Yegua creek watershed received between 1 to 3 inches over the last three days.
I suspect any bump in the creek flow will be enough to get the whitebass (already in the Yegua) moving upstream and the dark and cloudy days will encourage more fish to enter from the lake.

Lake level as of Wednesday, February 12, 2020 6:00:00 AM is 237.88
which is only a couple of inches below full pool of 238.00

Bank fishing this weekend will probably be a little sketchy, ya'll be careful. Muddy banks will definitely be a factor. The creeks will be flowing and the water will probably be a bit muddy.

Thanks for the reports gents. I remember having to wear boots and worrying about slipping into the creek on my best day last year. Think I'll give it a shot this weekend since I've been waiting a year to get back down. Going with a couple of fly rods this year to add to the fun.

We were curious if the recent rain had been enough to put any new water in the creeks but as you will see on this quick trip it didn't do anything.

J-Moe is truly the Yegua creek Fly fishing expert when it comes to catching whitebass and he showed me up 12 to none on this Wednesday evening trip to Irwin Bridge.

Reading Coolshot's report about the whitebass spawning on the humps in the open lake any of you bank beaters might want to check out the Birch Creek Unit of the State Park. For years the bank fishing around the points has been very good and that's where my dad would take us. We would net some ghost minnows and get busy catching fish.

Fished Newsman Bottom this morning. At 7:15am 3 vehicles parked when me & my friend arrived. ~10-12 more vehicles showed up later. Walked upstream & down stream - "goose egg" for me!! My friend caught 3 WB on first 3 casts all upstream as he did not fish downstream & left when I walked downstream. Most I talked to said they caught none-1. A few people caught ~4-5 WB. Agree - no significant rise in Yegua Creek water level. Water clarity looked better than I expected.

Well the creek may not have rose that much but I bet it did soak into the ground good. If ya'll get the rain called for (at least called for up here) I think it should rise a bit next week. Unfortunately
the temps take a hard dip too after Tuesday.

I have been watching the radar as the weather patterns have come through. We have not received near as much rain as the hill country from West Austin up through Fort Worth. Only about 0.75 inch is expected over 4 days next week. It's just mainly been slow soaking rains.

I checked the creeks yesterday and there was enough of a rise to draw some fish up into areas that had gotten to low. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday all look like good days to fish. We are getting close to the spawning activity beginning. We could see a start by Tuesday, then have it shut down when the front blows through Tuesday night. I do expect it to be decent fishing during those days.
