Been boatless for years but when I did have boats I always had a Hot foot. For so many years I wondered what it would be like to have a way to run the hot foot or the throttle when I wanted. Never knew of a system that would allow me to do that. Was looking at an article about John Cox’s boat and he has a switch on his throttle that allows him to run either way. Just wondered how many of you boat owners have this system these days.

I don't have it, but I've seen the new Etec's have the option of quickly switching (digital) from Hot Foot style back to hand throttle.

If you get enough fishing line wrapped up in the spring on your hotfoot it works like cruise control. Wont come back up to idle until you pull back with your foot.

On my 250 Verado both the hotfoot and the hand throttle work. That's made possible because both throttles are electronic instead of moving a manual throttle cable. Absolutely love it.

Drove all the way to Alabama for HS National championship, spring on hotfoot broke 15 minutes into the trip. Luckily, my wife was able to find one and we repaired it that night before the actual tourney started. Driving all day on a lake you have never been on and relying on using your toe to slow down - sucked a lot.

My 300 verado pro 4 stroke on basscat has the button. It defaults to hot foot but I can push the button on the throttle control and switch to old ways. I was so used to using hot foot you just throw it forward. The first time I had it in manual or throttle control, I threw it all way forward and boat tried to jump up when I just wanted to put in forward gear.

You haven't lived until you are fishing the Legends tourney on Fork while running 70 mph at the 515 West bridge and go to take your foot off the pedal only to realize its stuck down because your bottle of Dip-n-Dye is wedged in it somehow. luckily quickly reacted to pull the kill switch. I've always wondered why someone would want to have a hand throttle vs a foot control and after that incident I thought about going back but didn't.

Was a second or two from letting off for the no wake under the 35 bridge and the spring snapped.

that's scary. reminds me of when I was driving the Bass Pro truck to go pick up some live fish for a feeding show during the winter. I was just exiting 35 in Lewisville slowing down when all of a sudden the throttle went full speed on the exit ramp. wound up in the grass to discover a critter was warming itself and storing acorns under the hood and one stuck the throttle switch.

Definitely some pucker factor. It was even worse that my wife was in the boat with me. That probably helped me think quicker to pull the kill switch. She had no idea what had happened until I told her.
