TV, www and web based content is picking up steam every day. That's where the sponsorship gold of the future is going to be. I understand how much some like the old format. But it's quickly evolving. Evolve with the change or don't. Sponsors, anglers and a BUNCH of new fans are.

Or maybe they miss the fan interaction. Your statement holds no more validity than what you guy's accuse Big O of doing. Seems like a little bit of bias floating around. I guess with 50k posts you can do that. I would say the sponsors that dropped some of their MLF guys would disagree with you. But then again, who am I?

And the sponsors that quickly replaced them disagree with you

I like both... Although, i would think MLF would have their streaming service fixed so you dont have to refresh... first year - OK i understand.. year 2 - i am a little skeptical

There is a BPT Event in 2020 where my daughter lives and I thought about going to visit her during the tournament week. I do not own a boat. Is it even worth it to me to be there with plans to attend the event? I would think in the mornings take off it would be kind of cool but what about later in the day. Are there any activities for a spectator?

We went to the "post game show" at Conroe last year and it was pretty much a waste of time. If you have kids that are interested in fishing they can get an autograph or two, but other than that there's really nothing to see. I'm not even sure if they still do the "post game show anymore". I enjoy watching the MLF live stream and the cup events so please don't accuse me of being a hater. Just call it like I see it. MLF is a made for tv tournament and that is very obvious when you attend an actual event.

I agree 100%. I had completely quit watching BASS because I so disliked all the drama and loud assed announcers at the weigh ins. MLF came along and it was like a breath of fresh air to me. IMHO the MLF format has been the best thing to come along in many years. BASS had indeed turned it into WWF like experience.

Our media fork tournament I believe is the same weekend as the BPT in may. I don't watch it but it should be pretty cool to run around the lake as those guys. Some asked why it was scheduled with that but at the most it will be 40 BPT guys so that's nothing on FORK. This argument is entertaining as both sides have there feet dug in but I really don't give a rip because finally our tournament season is here.

Yes, I believe the MLF end-of-day is anticlimactic. There is excitement and suspense spread throughout the day so intrigue is still there, but the end is just ... "ok we're done now." I don't think that alone outweighs the excitement during competition hours of MLF but it's something I definitely love about traditional bag and weigh tournaments.

I know I enjoy winning with my friends and lady by my side at the weigh-in more than I would sitting on a boat with some jerk official and a camera guy I don't know out in the middle of nowhere. That's just me, and the value of the prize would certainly make up for a bit of loneliness at the moment of victory... but not entirely.

I enjoy a weigh in win (not sitting through it) and enjoy watching the win at the end of a BPT event. For those getting hung up on fans from a sponsor standpoint, I responded to this in another thread. One sponsor may prefer onsite activations if that's a priority for their brand, while another may have zero interest in the expense of the onsite activations. They are VERY hard to monetize and turn ROI positive and the vast majority of brands complain to the properties that the onsite lacks the value versus the cost to execute them effectively. I've sat in the meetings in both camps.

Those crowds are meaningless if you can't engage the customer and get them into the funnel. It might sound cool to the anglers when the crowd roars but you can't monetize that.

one positive to MLF format is that the pros don't have to deal with is spectator boats affecting the outcome.... another positive is the instant release eliminates the large numbers of dead fish that follows almost every tournament...

I agree with Fouz, and I’ll add this:

The entire tournament is exciting. You know exactly what everyone has. Guys are battling for the cut line, or first place, or to get out of a knockout round. If Wheeler didn’t catch 100 lbs in 30 minutes yesterday, it probably would’ve been much closer at the end, with guys looking for one more fish with under a minute left. That’s exciting to me. It happened in the knockout round. One guy, forget his name at the moment, needed one fish to move up to 8th and advance. He caught a 1.14 with under two minutes left and didn’t advance. That’s exciting to me.

And watching MLF proves to me that the anglers and announcers and even me have no idea exactly what a fish weighs until it’s on the scale. BASS is giving you estimates until weigh in, so no one knows how much anyone has until the end of the day. I don’t like that as much.

I prefer the MLF style, as of now. I’ll watch BASS occasionally. There is room for both styles and people will like both or prefer one over the other.

I don’t think it much matters to a lot of guys whether they get towed across a stage or not. It wouldn’t matter to me, but it isn’t like it was a surprise that there would be no weigh in with a stage and fans. MLF has been around a long time. If guys come to miss it and switch back, that’s ok. If MLF adds some sort of weigh in, that’s ok too.

There is room for both.

flag cheers

Whether you find out in the front of the boat or in front of a crowd a $100,000 is still a $100,000.

There was a section on the website for this week’s event that listed things for attendees to do. There were meet and greets and stuff like that, and you can watch takeoff and when they return each day.
