Fishing.

I was just talking to some guys in the Bass section about MLF and BASS and I suddenly remembered, I used to get up from like the age of 7 to 14, at 4am on Saturday Mornings to watch fishing shows. Bassmasters with Bob Cobb, Orlando Wilson, Hank Parker, Walker Cay Chronicles, Roland Martin, Bill Dance, In-Fisherman, some Yankee named "Babe" or something, I even watched him. Later came Fish Fishburne show, was not sure what to think about him, but I watched that with zeal!

When I was 11-15 I used to ride my bike 35 miles through LA to get to ghetto a** Echo Park where they stocked trout, and I once think I saw a bass.

I moved to Texas instead of South Dakota, even thought the money was better up there, because Texas was a bass fishing legend, and Sioux Falls had no fishing to speak of at all.

WHAT DO LOVE?

I love senkos.

I am the youngest of three, nobody in my family fished or did anything outdoorsy. I got hooked on fishing while visiting extended family in Massachusetts one summer as a young lad and I’ve loved it ever since. I still watch most fishing shows, a few I don’t care for.

I grew up hunting, fishing, and foraging. I love finding something new... a new plant, new bird, new critter that I haven't seen before. I love heading out with a couple bags in my pocket and seeing what I can find in the woods. Or sitting on the deck and listening to the bird sounds all around and figuring out what all I can hear. There's something utterly sublime in knowing where the geese go for the winter, or where to look for mushrooms in the spring or fall, or what that bass really wants for dinner.

You will never catch as many fish as you will when you live on the lake, any lake. To be watching tv in the living room and look out the window and see bass schooling and be there catching them in 15 minutes is s blast.

A good depth finder with side imaging and a good gps to mark locations on the water are valuable tools. Schooling bass usually stay in the same place for weeks before they move.

I love being home. Wrapping up a 6 day trip through the Netherlands and Germany. Can not wait to get back home to the great state of Texas and my family. Also, fishing.

I was one of the lucky ones....my Dad and Mom liked to bass fish and started taking my brother and I at an early age...this pic taken probably in late 40's or early 50's.....R.I.P. Mom and Dad...

Bourbon, Deer hunting and Bass fishing

I watched most of those shows, too, Dan. I didn’t have to get up quite that early, though. Fishing is awesome, even when it’s not.

Anybody remember Marty Staufer and Wild America?? That was always my favorite on Saturday mornings.

Yep. Really enjoyed it. But I'm such a nerd... I still like Nature and Nova and all that.
