When I use braid on a baitcaster, I have always used 65 lb because lighter braid had issues with wind drift, roundness and digging into the spool. But that stuff is way stronger than I need and almost impossible to break when you need to. My braid research stopped years ago. Is there a good lighter test braid that doesnt have these problems? Hopefuly 30 lb but even 40 or 50 would be better than 65. Thx for your help.

I use 50 on bait caster and 30 on spinning.

I use 50lb braid on most of my general use reels since it's about 12lb diameter. I have a few with 30 and 40 depending on the application and setup, but 50 gives me good strength and casting distance on typical m/h or h rods. There are so many brands now also plus sales, I've gotten 150yd spools for 7 dollars.

I really like the PP super slick for lighter braid. It's flatter and tends not to dig.
Actually, haven't had many problems with regular PP either

Wish I could say the same for the multiple spools of 832 I got on sale last year--that stuff will dig on you.

with braid you need to go by diameter first to see if a spinning reel or baitcast is needed.

I just bought my a daughter the Zebco Bullet spin cast. It comes spooled with 10lb mono and going to try 15lb Suffix 832 on it. Any thoughts? Thanks

Never tried it BUT the way those reels "grab" the line in that housing to effect the reeling in of the line... braid might be too thin and not have enough memory to work well... But give it a whirl and let us know! I could be wrong. Worst case you spool the braid onto something else and respool the reel with mono again.

if any of the components that the line touches are plastic, then no Bueno.

Vicious No-Fade is great braid. Round profile so it doesn't dig in, casts great, and really doesn't fade. Thinner than equivalent 832 or PP. I use the 50 lb for frogging and 40 lb for everything else. Pricey but worth it considering how long it lasts.

i fished the PP slick 50# last time i was on the cali delta, it was good.

Daiwa samurai braid. Thinner diameter than other braids. The 55lb is like 10 mono I think. I like it

I like this braid the best. Second would be Suffix 832.

For 65lb flipping and frogging it's 832 for me. I can't break it

If you don’t care about color daiwa samurai is probably the best. It only comes in green. 30 is thin.
