Not having much luck right now with sunnies at Amistad.
Anyone target them there? Tried worms on a split shot rig and drop shot....last outing tried under a bobber too.
Threw a white beetle spin a bit as well.
Thoughts?

I at one time several years ago fished Amistad a bunch and would usually fish that lake two to three times a year. Have not fished there over the past five years. Amistad holds some nice sunfish. I have caught a bunch of nice Bluegill and Redbreast off of that lake. I was also told that the lake holds nice Rios. I caught all of my sunnies using worms fishing them off of the bottom. I fished Black Brush Point (Cove) and did well both off of the bank and from the public dock that is there. I fished the shallow part of the dock which is approx. 10 to 15 feet. The dock goes out to 20 to 30 feet deep. There is shallower water at Box Canyon which is good sunfish spot during the spring and summer. That lake is huge and I am sure there are plenty of areas that are holding sunfish. Hope you find some good spots and let us know how you do. Would love to see some Amistad fishing reports! Side Note: Try to fish close to structure such as docks, rock ledges, bridge pillars, etc.

I at one time many, many years ago fished the "Big Blue" a lot. Have not fished that lake in years. Great bass lake. As the saying goes. If a lake has big bass it will have big Bluegill! So I am told.

Amistad has lots of both. The winner of a tournament this past weekend had 2 10lb largemouth. There were several good limits weighed in. As for bluegills they are mostly deep right now but on the move to the shallows. The problem with Amistad is its so deep and there are miles of good offshore areas. You can’t fish all of them in a lifetime there are so many. Yesterday I graphed large schools of bait 90ft deep. Most lakes don’t have 90ft lol. This lake has life past 100ft. With the help of an underwater camera I have seen schools of bluegills at many depths. Soon they will be up all over the banks and docks as always.. good fishn!

The water was so clear last time I could see schools of them. I was going to castnet some and Carolina rig them. They could see my net as well as I could see them. Couldn’t find any shallow enough to catch with the net.

I used to take vacation every year at Amistad. Wife always went with me and she fished .125 OZ rooster tails. Could catch 100 bream EASY. About two years after the B Masters were there the bass fishing turned ...let me be nice and say it just wasn't very good! I went from catching 50 bass per day to catching four to five in a week. I may be bad but I am not that bad of a fisherman. Sent TPWD Lake biologist a note. He claimed that the fish had changed but my fishing had not. True, but what happened to all the fish you could SEE that were no longer there. Also, the bream. He acknowledged that they were absent and did not know the cause of it. I know that the few bass I caught down there had sores on them and multiple had multiple parasites in their gullets. I believe there was a water quality issue. I am not trying to sour fishing at Amistad. It is a beautiful lake with beautiful scenery . But something happened back then. The lake dropped and the grass was rare. The bream and most of the bass were gone!
