Looked at the Texas Superstars? http://texassuperstar.com/plants/

Deciduous holly is cool. Like the Lantana and Turks Cap too.

This will sound crazy but we have planted a lot of shoots from our Airplane (spider) plants in our flower beds. They die out in the winter and come back in spring and look nice and very easy to take care of. They even make more shoots and spread even more in the beds. They like some sun but not really full west sun all day.

Transplanted these tonight into bigger pots in your honor. Every time I handle them I think about you.

This is true. We moved in about 1-1/2 years ago. Previous owner came over that afternoon. She went on and on and on about the Hydrabgeas. I promised her I wouldn't change that bed for years and would take care of them, and that she could drive/stop by anytime and they would be there. They did great last year and sure enough they are planted due north or close to it. Very little sun.

My wifes flower garden has yellow canon , purple irises and orange day lillies . All bloom one at a time so makes for a nice garden among her 3 rose bushes . In the front yard we have yellow esperanzas .

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.
