Couldn’t find Barricade today so I went with Scott’s Halts. It’s down and ready for tonight’s rain.

Neil goes by zones and I agree completely with his schedule. I also go by how the winter weather has been. Warmer winter weather means earlier application (around Feb 15), colder winter weather later application (Mar 15).

I hear not to put down pre-emergent on a newly sodded yard for the first year. True?

True. Here is the Barricade label. Under Use Precautions. "Do not apply to newly set sod until the following year" When in doubt always follow the label.

You want your blades to be dry. As of now, Friday afternoon looks like a good time with another system coming in this weekend.

Very proud to say that the early sprouts I have are starting to wilt up. Going to try and get my second serving of halts out this weekend.

The key time is to put it down before the soil temp is 55 or above for about 3 consecutive days. I put down Barricade on 2-9-2020 and my soil temp was right at 55 degrees , but I think I got it down and watered in time. I put it down in September and it did a great job compared to last year.

I'd be careful bloo. More isn't always better. Applying a ton of pre can/will effect your lawn in spring. Pendimethalin the active ingredient in Halts is a pretty big root pruner. Yes you will block the weeds but you will also block expanded turf growth/expansion. I don't know what the Halts label says, but I would follow it for #/lbs per year app amount and stay under that. Unless your verticutting or aerating I wouldn't put down another app until late April and then use a light app of Dithiopyr. This is why I use Prodiamine. great broad spectrum of control and probably the least of the root pruners. It's pretty much why it was made. Prodiamine and Dithiopyr both have their place and work well, but as I mentioned. More isn't better.
