Well I decided to order new LED deck light for the boat. I read a lot and decided to go with red for the lack of bug draw effect and the night blindness. I always used a red light getting to and from the deer stand so I know wild life don’t pick up on it as bad. I also order a dimmer switch that goes from off to 100%. Can’t wait to get the in. Just rigging out in the dark I think will be awesome. Anyone else use them?

What brand and where did you get them? I’ve been wanting to get some red lights for my center console.

Man the ones l bought were on Amazon, it was a 6 pk of waterproof led lights. They come so you can either screw them in place or stick them. They were under 20 bucks. I decided to go with them. I’ll get them all wired in with the dimmer switch and play with the placement. If l have trouble with them I’ll replace them with a better brand but at least I’ll know what works before I drill holes in my hull.

I actually JUST did a video about installing LED lights! I installed exterior lighting, interior lighting, and spotlights - they all turned out great - and by that, I mean incredibly bright. LOL

I posted links to all of the stuff I used in the video description, if ya'll need that info.

I have blue in my Champ. Never has a bug problem. Not sure I would like red ones.

Are there any legal issues with using red or green deck lights?

Might be if you are under way at night and the light is visible from outside the boat. It could be confusing to other boaters that are approaching you from opposite direction. This came in to play once that I remember. On Texoma one night and another BB running straight at me with both of us doing 60 or better. There is not a lot of reaction time. You could turn the deck lights off when under way so probably not an issue then.

Found this in the Outdoor Annual:

Lights
Must be equipped with US Coast Guard approved and serviceable red and green side lights and a white all-around light. Lights must be displayed from sunset to sunrise. No other lights shall be exhibited that may be mistaken for navigation lights or impair the visibility or distinctive characteristics of such lights or that interfere with the keeping of a proper lookout.
