I have noticed that these guys on MLF are holding these fish out of water for multiple minutes while weighing, taking picture and releasing.
I am not trying to start an argument, I am obviously watching MLF and like what they are doing coverage wise on the first tournament.
I saw Dustin Connell hold his 6-12 out of the water for 3-4 minutes, he was excited, took multiple pictures and then kept talking while holding the fish. Ott Defoe had to wait over a minute for his marshal to get the scale out alone.
I was always under the impression that if you can't hold your breath for as long as you are holding a fish out of water then you are hurting that fish.
It's an observation, and easily followed with the clock running in the top right corner.
If you preach fish care, then practice it, right?

Cool. 10 minutes makes me feel better about chunking mine in a dry live well waiting for it to fill up.

Ok, so up to 3 minutes not too severe according to that one study.
No big deal, moving along.

At least the "officials" aren't filleting the angler's catch

These kinds of threads usually start the proverbial "C&R" versus "keep" wars. I always release, but it's just that I don't care for bass for eating. That said, the whole "fish care" bit, IMO, has always been more about marketing than true conservation and fish care. Deck landing, letting them flop across the carpet, etc, probably isn't text book fish handling. JMO.
