Call up to Stowaway and see who is there, not 100% sure off hand. There is a Lake Conroe page on Facebook that might have some more info.

There really isn’t one. You would starve to death as a bass guide on Conroe. Not enough bites on enough days.

There is a guy that calls in to the Outdoors show think its the Fish Dude or something, but he talks about hybrid/stripers a lot but he might be able to point you to someone.

He is out of Stowaway.

And I have to agree with Fishspanker, Conroe can be fickle.

All depends on what you want out of the trip. If you want to catch a bunch then your likely to be disappointed. If you want some help for the Big Bass Tour then it might help. Just fish from 8 ft and in during BBT. Richard Tatsch is as good a choice as any guide for bass.

Fishing is pretty tough right now. Tournament weights are down. We won the Sunday tournament yesterday with 4 for 19.21 with a 7.74 big bass. It was a total grind. 6 bites all day but they were the right ones and put them all in the boat. Probably couldn’t get similar results the next day. Very random where they are. It should get better the next two weeks if we get warm days and nights. Water temp is about 57 on the average.

I agree on the making a living on Conroe as a largemouth guide! Would be a tough living if that's all you guided for! Lived down south of Conroe from 2011-2015 and we just moved back a year ago.

Went out yesterday and blanked yet again. I've caught some good ones but its a tough lake for sure.
Not for any tourney trails (3 young kids and have been out like 4 times in the last 4 years). Honestly, I just want to learn the lake more and put some fish in the boat.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I agree. Conroe can really suck. A bit tangential, but if you're old like me, you can remember how good it was in way back times (before they put the carp in there). It was really a premier lake and had a ton of guides back then.

Very true. I was telling a guy last night I saw some hydrilla in a back lake off the San Jac and told him I knew for sure thats what it was as I recall it looking like front yards in front of some of those docs back in the 80s .We bream and crappie fished with friends of my Dad and caught a lot of nice bycatch bass. This stuff was not quite as green, but was for sure some strand of it. Terpe and them quit bass and crappie guiding when the lake took a dive. They did catfish for a while but I think even that has played out. We got 2nd in a tourney there in 18, went back next week and blanked. The magic dock we culled our whole bag on from 2-230 had died!!!

Old Butch. Hadn't thought of him in 100 years. I remember when he was a youngster out on Conroe. I googled him after you mentioned him. He still has a website that says he still guides on Conroe. Shame thinking back how it used to be versus now.
