Look for areas of flats next to deep water. The catfish will follow the bait fish so try different depths till you find them. If you are just after small eating size fish, punch bait or worms work good. Big pieces of cut bait will get the big fish. Check old post to find a good catfish lake in your area.

Also, wind in the face tends to help. Learn to throw a cast net to catch shad. If you can't find bait, I've had decent luck with fresh chicken breast catching eater sized blues. Flooded areas in the spring can also be productive. Rocky areas during the spawn (late spring).

Put Navionics on your phone and try to find spots close to underwater creek channels, points, drop offs, ponds etc. Wind is Good but doesn’t have to be in your Face - my PB of 52 came with wind to our backs, ballooning bait out. Cross wind on a point can be Good. If it’s been warm a cpl days try shallow near timber.

Chumming your spot is good to do also. When I fish from bank I throw cubes out the day before I fish. I rarely fish from shore now that my pontoon is going great.

I live 10 minutes from there and have never tried it!! I am heading there tomorrow morning with two friends that are super new at fishing to try and put them on some fish-- any pointers on what hits out there would be great! I plan on just picking a spot, never fished there before-- Any tips would be helpful, thank you!
