We have been targeting crappie as of late. The crappie have been deep holding by Brushpiles but there are also a few big bluegills mixed in and they also like jigs [Linked Image]

Catching deep gills is fun but not as fun as sight casting to them in the summer when they are just under the surface.

Nice fish, beautiful. After this front passes I'll have to find some before the weekend crowd.

Wow Gar, you and Pot sure can find the slabs. It is really strange, this fishing for sunfish in the winter. You folks found them in 20 to 30 FOW, while yesterday Chuck and I were tearing them up, bobber fishing, in 2 - 4 ft of water in a creek with running water. Course they weren't big like you all were catching, ours were only 7 - 8 1/2 inch Bluegills, but were consistently the same size. We just never know unless we go, and being retired we are truly blessed. hmmm

Those are some nice fish...the top one looks like he's been living deep for awhile with the faded colors.

Thanks for the reply Rick! I think every river/creek system is different in its own way and so are the fish. Thats whats so great about gill fishing there are so many different ways to fish for them and even more fun trying to figure them out. I still have a ways to go till retirement but im looking forward to it and fishing every day cheers

Great looking fish, sight casting is like hunting but I'll take the tug, shallow or deep!
