Do y’all have any advice on trying to find crappie from the bank this time of year? I’m in Ellis county and have tried bardwell a couple times and haven’t even gotten a bite down there at the marina. I know they aren’t moving up yet but I figured a crappie house in some deeper water might produce some. Thanks in advance!

Maybe try to find a creek. They are in some of the creeks up here in north Texas. Sorry for the lack of detail but I'm not familiar with your area.

Go to creeks on the north side of any lake, when the north wind blows, it brings in colder water to the south side. 2cents Good luck!!

Willy,

Do some driving on the county roads around the north and north west side of Bardwell... Been a few years, and I do not remember exact locations, but there are a couple of areas where you can park on the road, and they have the "wildlife area" gates and signs. You can walk it, if you are not worried about a little hike. You can get into the Wax. Creek, and walk the creek banks in that upper end area. That can get good at times for crappie and for white bass when they are running. Kind of depends on how high water is and how much rain - muddy conditions, etc.

I am far from the best fisherman to start with, but I have always struggled on Bardwell for crappie and or whites. Very inconsistent. Some people kill them on the lake. Catfish was about the only thing I could count on there...

Also, if a kayak, canoe or john boat is an option for you, Wax Creek Park puts you really close to the north end creeks, so not much paddle time and opens the opportunities.

I have shifted most of my time to Cedar Creek now, and definately a lot more opportunity - with a boat - on the bigger lake.

Good luck!
Ken

2014 Premier Alante 235 RF tritoon. Momma's boat. But I get to fish on her.

A country boy will survive... but those who cross him?

Cedar Creek personal best:
Blue Cat 31.55 lbs
Hybrid 6.2 lbs
Crappie 2.1 lbs
Tennessee River Blue 45.7
