A friend, dad and I had a good trip out to Port A and found the sheepies starting to move in:

Used 1/0 and 2/0 hooks with shrimp. Used a 1/4 to 1 OZ weight while tide was running and free lined at slack tides.

Shrimp both dead and live were used. Had a ghost shrimp and some crabs mixed in one batch of shrimp, and they caught just as well.
Mostly in the 14" range, but a few keepers in the mix, but loads of fun.

Thought I would share cpl of pics.

Can you tell what type of water you were fishing. I fish Port A, PINS and Port Mansfield once or twice a year. I target and catch reds, specks, snook, flounder and pomp’s. I’ve always wanted to catch sheepshead but haven’t really studied up on them. I’ve read they are around dock/pier pylons. Are they around the jetties too? Surf and bay? Any advice would be appreciated.

We were fishing deep water docks that had multiple pilings in the water. I have found that any structure you can find will usually produce sheepies.

The jetties at Port A are amazing for sheephead from now thru at least March.

I have not. At times I'm sure they would work. There will be times when they won't work. A $5 bag of fresh dead shrimp is not an issue if it means I'll catch fish.

We just had a good weekend at the Port A jetties doing the same... lots of Sheepshead in the 14" range but some keepers. Great day, glad to hear you enjoyed yourself sir!
