My poor poor boat has been sitting for almost 2 years. Wanting to get back to serious fishing. I want to drain the gas and start with fresh. Probably has 5 gallons in it. How would you drain an onboard fuel cell ?

Siphon or some sort of hand pump. Your bigger problem will be disposing of it.

Don't forget to drain the fuel line as well. Maybe get a new fuel filter.

Were you using no ethanol before you let it sit up? How about fuel stabilizer?

Not if he lights it on fire as it is coming out of the discharge hose and makes like it's a roman candle and starts waving it all around while drawing inappropriate images in the sky.

#1 thing is to replace the impeller first. Siphon gas into 1 or 2 five gal gas containers. Disconnect fuel lines and drain. Replace fuel filter(s). Pull plugs and clean or replace. Before replacing plugs I would squirt Sea Foam into each cylinder. Check batteries and charge them. You may have to replace the starting battery. Add fresh gas with Sea Foam added. Remove cowling and have someone squirt starting fluid into carbs while you attempt to start it. Once started, let it run at idle speed for 10 - 15 minutes. I mixed 1 gallon of old gas with 4 gallons of fresh gas and ran it through my lawn mower, when I drained my tank.

I removed the gas from mine by disconnecting the hose at the motor. Using an extra piece of fuel line and electrical tape. I tapped the 2 lines together making the fuel line long enough to be below the tanks in the boat. Pumped the bubble and the gas started running. Had a little more fuel in the tanks than I thought had to use of 5 gallon jugs. 1 full and the other about half. I disposed of the gas by mixing it with fresh and running in the lawn mower. I took a while but finally burned it all

Water pump Impeller ? That's a Must. I'd replace all fuel lines, the bulb, and if he has no Fuel/Water separator ...mount one. If he does, replace the filter.

If you had a kayak you would use it more often and not have to deal with a crappy, mother nature destroying boat motor.

you can use the bulb/fuel hose for a syphon, I undo the engine side of bulb, put on a pc of fuel line long enough to reach a 5 gal. jug and squeeze the bulb till flow starts. not all that fast but works good and minimal bs to drain the tank.

as said, change water pump, any filters and run a couple of cans of seafoam with the first 10 gallons of gas to clean out any varnish/crud.

may want to go ahead and change plugs too.

sartin marine in yantis does great work, might call them if not too far a drive.

If it's been sitting for two years; I'd look at the cranking battery health also. Might as well change out the lower unit gear lube.

The only challenging job I see on the list is changing out the impeller/water pump--can be done solo, but wouldn't want to. It's a one hour two person job (make sure you have the correct impeller and don't have to drive to bass pro or the marine store again to get the correct one because the teenager on the weekend shift sold you the incorrect one the first time)

Everything else can be done quite easily by one person.

If it's a two stroke, check the cranking battery health first. If all is good there; you could just pour in a couple cans of seafoam and 5 gallons of ethanol free gas; then run it on the lake until nearly empty. Make sure you see water coming out of the spout, before you run it.
