Is the black max rod capable of throwing a 6xd crankbait that weighs 1 oz if the rod is rated for up to 3/4oz ? Would that much weight difference really cause a issue ?

The weight rating really doesn't mean much. Need to be more concerned with action and length.

black max are fine with some weight. They start running into issues when they don't have enough weight.

I think that it will overpower the rod in the sense that it would be hard to throw it for any length of time due to fatigue of the user. You can do it for sure, but it will wear you out.

I would agree with nitroslim. It may be fine on some casts and not so good on others. Good luck. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I use that rod for everything under the sun. No problems yet.

Might be the best all around reel for the $$$. I bought one for my son and I liked it for crankbaits. Been fishing is for 3 years and not one problem. Good luck and donโ€™t forget to post pics.
