The last 2 nights of flounder gigging have been very good, even with a major drop in tides and shifting winds. Most of the fish were holding on hard sand and mud bottom in 1-2' of water, further from shore than usual. We are still getting abnormally large fish for January/February with many in the 17-20" range. Prospects are excellent heading into Spring, and warmer temps should make flounder more active on the flats in the next few weeks.

1/31/2020
I had repeat customer Mike S. group of 4 onboard. Conditions were nice, with North winds at 5mph, normal tide levels, and cold temps in the upper 40's. We got a slow start, with only 1 flounder in the first 45 minutes. After that, the action took off, with lots of active flounder in more murky water. We ended with a 20 flounder limit plus 4 sheepshead and 1 black drum by 9pm. The 3 largest flounder tonight were all 20".

2/1/2020 - Double Trip
For the first trip tonight, I had repeat customer Jeff M. group of 2 onboard. Conditions were marginal, with SW wind at 15mph and low tide levels. The action was slow, but steady, and we ended with a 10 flounder limit plus 2 sheepshead by 9pm.

Late Trip - I had new customer Cody B. group of 2 onboard. We got on the fish right away, gigging 7 in the first 30 minutes. After that, it slowed way down, taking us 2 hours to get our last 3 flounder. Once we got our flounder limit, we went looking for drum and sheepshead, and found a pile of them on one small reef. We ended with a 10 flounder limit plus 8 sheepshead and 1 black drum by 1:15am. We had two flounder at 20" on this trip.

Upcoming open dates for flounder gigging:
February: 11-13, 17-20, 24-27
March: 3-5, 9, 10, 15, 17, 18, 19, 22-26, 29-31
April: 1, 2, 5-9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19-23, 25-29
May: 3-13, 15, 17-23, 25-28, 30, 31
