Spent most of the afternoon today enjoying the beautiful weather out on the lake. I tried fishing for suspended fish in deep water in three places, but after 30 minutes and no bites - even though I could see fish down there - I gave up and went to structure fishing. I caught fish at Dam Ridge, Campbell's Hump, Staubach Hump, The A-Frame, Long Ridge West, Old Pond Dam and 3-Jug Hump. Ended up with 39 whites, 5 legal and 2 short hybrids and 2 nice yellow bass. Caught fish on #4 and #5 silver Mepps Aglia spinners - some straight down and some casting out and working back along the bottom slowly.

I think I noticed something today worth mentioning. Since I found fish on structures, I didn't need to thump my boat to bring fish to me. I usually fish without thumping as long as they bite. Then thump when they slow down to try to bring in a few more. One observation about thumping is that it is good about bringing fish up under the boat. One problem right now at Cedar Creek is there are a lot of 8 to 9 inch fish. When I thump, it draws them too, and in most cases they far outnumber the better fish. So, I tested this at Staubach Hump today. When I got there I started catching mostly 13 to 15 inch whites not thumping. Then I turned on the thumper, and it did draw more fish up under the boat - and 90 % were the 8 to 9 inch fish. The learning is, if I find and am catching good fish on a structure at CC right now, I don't turn the thumper on. I think this is just a temporary small-fish issue. I've been thumping the boat with my feet for years to attract more fish and have just purchased a battery powered thumper..

That’s good stuff Dennis. I haven’t been thumping for very long, and still just use my foot or a rod to tap the deck or splash the water. Right now I can just park on top of a school and they will pretty much stay put under the boat. When the bite slows down, I’ll just start thumping a bit and BAM! They turn right back on! cheers

Dennis, thanks for sharing that observation. I will do some testing next time out to see if that is the case with the lakes I fish. I catch lots of smaller fish during the winter but also only thump during the winter. To be quite honest I take lots of people fishing who never get to catch fish so I don’t chance it and turn the thumper on as soon as I see them on the graph and hit the spot lock. One thing for sure, the thumper will bring in fish and hold them in one spot. Amazing phenomenon I learned about a few years ago on TFF.

1/27/2020 Went out on Cedar Creek Lake on Monday Jaunary 27 and caught 45 keeper white bass ranging from 10 inches to 15 inches. Water temp is about 54 F. Caught them on Long Ridge, in 18 to 25 fow. Caught all on a #4 silver plain Mepps Aglia spinner. Some by casting out and working back to the boat along the bottom and some by getting over the fish and lifting the Mepps up from the bottom vertically with the rod then letting it fall back to bottom. All were catch and release.

1/30/2020 Went out in this cold weather today and didn't see another boat. I guess that makes me the either the dumbest or most fanatical white bass fisher! I did manage a limit of whites with some on each of the following structures: Long Ridge West, 3-Jug Hump, Merimac Point and Iron Wall Hump. Fish were hugging the bottom in 20 to 23 fow. Caught most on silver #4 and a few on white #4 Mepps. Water temp was 52 F.

Oh, I bought a 20 ft Skeeter center console to replace the bass boat. Here it is:
