Saw where he wrote that he would not be fishing the Classic this year although he qualified as last years winner. Curious if y'all think this is a good move or not. First off I like Ott. He is a good man of God and seems to be a really nice guy. I don't really have an opinion either way. On one hand I understand his loyalty to his new endeavor (MLF), but from a business side this seems like a wasted chance to help promote his sponsors. Be curious what some of y'all would do. If it was me I would say that fishing the Classic is the biggest deal in tournament Bass fishing and would never waste the opportunity. I am also not Ott. Either way, he is definitely sticking to his guns. Good for him.

Pretty sure in that same article he also said he had to fish the elite series this year in order to retain his classic qualification. By not fishing the elites this year he lost his qualified status.

He didn't qualify because he didn't fish the Elites last year.

I got ya. I was trying to multi-task and skimmed over that part. You think he would have fished if eligible?

Just thinking about this the powers that be would be smart if they looked at the professional golf model. There is a level of cooperation and collaboration between the USGA, R&A, and PGA. All the tours in professional fishing should be able to come to some agreement that would allow the best of the tours to come together and fish at least a couple of tournaments together the way golf does the majors. The Classic would definitely be the equivalent of the Masters. That way past champions could automatically fish if they choose. This is the one aspect I do not like about the split.

Interesting thought. I think the whole deal behind choosing one side or the other is you have the perceived best fisherman in the world not fishing the best Bass fishing trail in the world. Who then in turn can't qualify for the greatest bass fishing tournament in the world (Classic). I do however believe the guys that are fishing the Elites are going to be stars and take the place of the other big names. It happens in every sport. You have new stars coming in and taking the place of the old. BPT is going to have to develop new names as the others begin to retire. BASS has a longstanding reputation of making guys. JMO.

Luke Clausen also missed it the following year after he won the Classic for the same reason

Those from within who listen to this man, or go to him and ask for a hall pass so they can meet their sponsors expectations will pay the price. Those who continue to drink that kool-aid will bring about their own demise. An article from spring of 2019 shines the agenda of MLF brightly. It’s interesting how the Redcrest was cancelled for 2020 considering his lofty statements.

Ott was one of the young ones that would have had a great career with B.A.S.S. I am doubtful he can can get that with Mo Little Fish..

I would guess his goal of his career is to do as well as he can monetarily. He's probably made a lot of his choices based on his bottom line and at the end of the day the amount of money he can put in the bank.

Defoe has 5 or 6 wins including a Classic Championship and also was Rookie of year. I think he has already had a greater career than most that will ever fish at that level with BASS.

Big O where was the article where the great all powering duckett stating that HE was releashing HIS sponsors from last years redcrest because it would have put a financial burden on them having two events, The Classic and his tweety bird, with in 6 months of one another?

Ott is wrong on one point. People will not ever forget he won the Classic.
