I’m headed to lake Travis at the end of February. I’ve never been there before! From what I have looked up I know that this a pretty clear/deep lake with a lot of rock. My game plan was cranking and a Texas rig or Shakey head..maybe a spinnerbait here and there. Does anyone have any tips?

Shakey head for sure, could be spawning by then.

Jerkbaits...Pointers, OneTen +1 or +2, etc. Skipping wacky rigs under docks and INTO any bushes/brush you spot is also very effective. Be prepared for the zebra mussels. Check your line OFTEN. I typically throw braid with flouro leaders. Had always used 12# for the leaders but now use 16#.

By the end of February the fish may very well be spawning, so bed fishing isn't out of the question. I would tie on your favorite bed bait... I like a white seiko personally. Crankbaits, jigs, keitechs, and a dropshot are all baits you should have tied on as well. Bluff walls are producing right now, but by the time you come, there will for sure be pre-spawn fish, so finding those main lake points and funnel points will be key.

Wacky seniors have always done good for me there.

It's Feb 1 and it's been an unusual year. The normal winter bite in 25-35 foot has been iffy. Mainly because the bait in deeper water has not been in concentrated bait balls. They have been mostly scattered and hard to find concentrated bait balls. They released 4 foot of water from LBJ in January and the lake rose a foot or so. That pushed the fish shallow and a lot of people were catching them shallow. Some in 6+ category. If the warmer weather holds, then it's yet to be seen but late February bass may be spawning. Normally late March, early April is the month bass spawn. My guess is you will be arriving just about the right time.

Thoughts on this weekend? I'm coming down from Minnesota Wednesday. We will be out Thursday to Monday. Looks cool Thursday but warming. We plan to burn a lot of gas testing props, but I hope to get some fishing in.
