Are we witnessing the basic end of power plant fishing in NE Texas? I have fished Martin Creek a few times lately and it's barely 70 in the discharge. Pirkey is still in the 60's by discharge, maybe just touching 70. I think a mild winter so far has something to do with it because of on and off usage, but surely both of these are fully shut-down by 2022. Guess we all better get used to fishing cold water in winter time.

Cold water?! At least you don't have to auger through 10" of ice to wet a lure.

My BIL has a friend that has caught 2 10 pounders in Massachusetts, which catching even an 8 is unheard of, both ice fishing.

Martin was 61 at the island cut last Saturday.
Brandy was almost 68, straight across form the launch cove on Sunday.
Fishing sucked on both.

You can have the power plant lakes.

I look forward to them every year, and come about December im sick of fishing them.

Squaw is struggling. Pressure and tournaments have taken a tole on that lake. I think the bigger story than the power plants shutting down is the lakes possible closing because the land around some of them is owned by the power plant company. Monti has already had that happen to it and I would be willing to be Fairfield will be the next lake to have access shut down while the company's try to sell the land surrounding the lake.

Who knows if they will all shut down... no telling what kind of insanity will ensue at the government levels over the next 2 years. I guess if they go away you NE Texas folks will have to do what us DFW folks had to do for years... drive 2-4 hours one way to fish a hot water lake. barf

Both lakes threw me and my partner curve balls this weekend, didn't fish the way we expected them to respectively but we adjusted and both days ended up being very good to us.

If you can't find em wind em.

Having fished tournaments for the last 23-24 years, including at least two tournaments a month from January through May, I've had to go out in whatever weather and water conditions we're given. As far as I'm concerned fishing 40 degree water sucks. I don't fish for a living, even in tournaments. I fish because I enjoy it, and fishing ice cold water isn't enjoyable the overwhelming majority of the time.

We actually changed circuits this year because we were sick of it.
