Haven’t been able to fish for a few months now due to pain in my wrists and found out this week that it is rheumatoid arthritis. Can’t get an appointment with the rheumatologist until March. Anyone know of options to help with the pain? Not being able to fish is really bumming me out.

Strong pain creams on a regular basis? I use Bio-freeze for most of my aches and pains, but also use a prescription pain cream that I get from my step-mom and it seems to help well. It's called Diclofenac. I believe it's specifically used for rheumatoid arthritis.

Thanks Okie. Diclofenac is what I am taking now, along with voltaren cream, but not helping much yet. Ice packs help but it’s just temporary. Hopefully the Rheumatologist comes up with something.

The Voltaren did not seem to help my wife much. Gotta be something better out there.

As with anything a little goes a long way. There are a lot of articles out there but i picked the newest most reputable I could find.
Grateful for every sunrise and sunset I get to witness. - Jason

Been studying on this quite a bit and DMSO might be an option. Seems like with everything else, there are side effects. Apparently I have had it a long time and did not even realize it. I will update after my Rheumatologist visit on March 2, but right now I am taking the Diclofenac, using the Voltaren cream, taking a turmeric supplement, and ice packs. Seem to see slight improvements, but still having issues with flexibility and pain in my wrists. Going to try to fish for the first time in several months this weekend.

Your diet can help tremendously. My wife was diagnosed about 18 months ago while in her 40s. She has an advanced case of it. She had lot a lot of dexterity in her hands. She is not one to complain or he sick but its been a rough ride seeing how quickly it has progressed.
She finds better relief from avoiding certain foods as many xause swelling etc. Look it up. Lots of info out there.

Very best thing is regular plane old aspirin...believe it or not aspirin is very good at helping inflammation. Take it regularly daily... Also stay away from foods that cause inflammation ie: processed meat, dairy products-cheese, sugar, bread.....non impact exercise and staying hydrated.....I also personally believe sweating is good for your jounts... wear a sauna suit to sweat more on those colder days in the winter when your not sweating enough like in the summer....my mother had severe aggresive R A diagnosed at 29...she was in a wheelchair for 15 years and 20 years bedfast at home...as many different meds she took, she swore by aspirin for many many years and said it helped her the most...

More to what Mark said.... one of the things that makes my joints not hurt so badly is to stop drinking beer. Now what in the heck is a redneck supposed to do? NOT drink beer?

DMSO I have used it for years on one arthritic knuckle on one hand, and it works for me. My Doctor does not approve.
CAUTION!!! It will migrate any chemicals that are on your skin into your body because it is a solvent. Wash the area and rinse soap residue off real good before applying.
