There is a possibility that we mill be going to Peoria, Arizona in the near future. Has anyone gone to the Grand Canyon from here? Where did you go to enter the canyon? Grand Canyon National Park?

We went to the south rim, and entered through the south gate. Getting to the north rim will require a long drive for you coming from the Phoenix area.

A bit of advice. The rooms inside the park are insanely high, IMO. All those accommodations are controlled by one company for reservations. Try to find a place just outside the gates unless you just have to stay inside. Even the 3rd tier spots are high, and are about the equivilant of a Motel 6.

From Peoria, you will have to take 17 N to the Grand Canyon. We've been to both South and North Rims, each are spectacular views. The South Rim Park is fine. On your way up 17, I highly recommend taking time to head to Clarkdale and take the Verde Canyon Railroad tour. It is really done up nice, great view etc. We took the indoor car and they offer a great lunch, food and drinks. You can go out onto a flatcar as the train is going to view the scenery and there is a really nice store at the depot. You can stay in Flagstaff for the night. Take Rt. 89 ALT for a really nice scenic drive from Clarkdale up to Flagstaff. The Coconina forest and mountains there are spectacular to see. Or you could even stay in Sedona for the night, visit Redrock monument the next day. Sedona is a cool town. From Flagstaff or Sedona, the object is to get onto 64 North up to Grand Canyon National Park on the South Rim.

Also, if you have a National Park pass there is a special entrance lane to use that will let you bypass all those cars in the other lanes waiting to pay.

If you don't have a pass but are going to be visiting other NPs in the future you can buy one in advance online. Various types of passes are available -- yearly, military, seniors and 4th graders (you'll have to look at the site to understand this one).

I've been to the Grand Canyon but I only flew through it. That is below the rim. That was "fun".

Look! Up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's an EMP!

The Grand Canyon is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is.

the view from the south rim probably is the most spectacular view of scenery in north America....(and view from north rim is almost as good)...go to Williams or flagstaff and take highway up to grand canyon village then just walk out on the rim....been several years since I've been there but at that time they had an I-max theater and a short video of some absolutely beautiful views of the canyon taken from a helicopter....

If you want to see the North Rim, be sure and check to see if it is open. Usually opens in May depending on snow fall for the winter.

Someone should fill it in with dirt, before someone gets injured.

I stopped there for about five minutes on a road trip from Vegas. That's one big ditch.
