Rick Wilson and I are hosting the first American Carp Society Fish-In for this year February 16, 2020 at Scott's Landing Marina on Grapevine Lake. If you'd like to start your Carp fishing journey this is the perfect opportunity. All you'll need to bring is yourself and plenty of energy to reel in big, powerful fish!

Here's one of the larger Common Carp from Grapevine - this one wasn't very long but she sure was thick! She tipped the scales at 22lbs even. I was thrilled to be able to put him on such a great fish!

Here's a nice sized Smallmouth Buffalo from Lake Grapevine - you can find them up to twice this size in the lake!

If I were to make it, would I be frowned at without euro gear? I used to fish alot, but never got the fancy gear as I would fish for multiple species

For what I have seen on prior post you would be greeted with open arms and would also make some friends with some super good anglers! thumb

Banker's 100% correct! You're more than welcome to come and fish with us. Myself and several of my friends will be fishing and passing off rods as we hook up to get people onto their first several Carp and Buffalo to promote them as sport fish. Here's a video of what we're trying to accomplish:

I’m Redneck Euro myself..............Baitfeed combos but not on “carp” rods (just 8’ medium rods), buzz bar duck taped to river bank rod holders for my Alarms. - Cheapo alarms but no hangers or swingers, usually just corn or maize on #2 hook, oatmeal n corn method..........

Come On Out with whatever you got - I’ve seen guys just back their drag all way off and then tighten drag when they get a run, other guys use baitcasters with clickers on.........

So far this year I've had 6 Common Carp over 20lbs and one Buffalo that was just under 30, all from here in DFW. Fish this big can be found in even the smallest waters such as ponds or creeks, you just have to know how to target them! Coming out this Sunday will be your first step towards catching some beautiful giants like my most recent 20+ pictured below!

I saw lots of fish caught while I was there. Mostly Buffalo 8-14lb, heard a nice carp was caught as well. TXMS was passing off his fish to anyone interested, heard some PB's were broken and he was also teaching those that wanted to learn. thumb

Sounds like a great time!

If I was not out on a blue cat trip today I would have joined you guys! Sounds like you did better than I did.

Love a good buff or carp. Hard fighting fish.

Thanks to everyone for coming out, I hope you all had a blast! Looking forward to seeing all of you continue and catch some Carp and Buffalo on your own.

Here are the results from the fish-in, we hauled and released quite a few smaller fish without photos. I don't remember the weights of them all, our biggest Smallmouth Buffalo was 18lbs and the biggest Carp was a chunk at 15lb 12oz.

Nice pics.

That next to last one, that buff, is it the camera or does it have a blue stain on it?

The blue is something similar to this: Carp Care

TXMulti-Species showed me the full Carp Spa Treatment in person last year during a meet and greet. Comfy beds, Anti-Septic, and massage techniques (actually not massage, but how to properly hold a carp for pics) are all part of the treatment. smile

It shows a great level of respect for the species to ensure someone else has the opportunity to catch the fish again in good health.

Thanks guys! cheers Dan, Brine is 100% correct, that blue spot is an antiseptic we use if the fish is bleeding or damaged to help it heal. That particular fish had recently lost some scales (either during the fight or sometime before) so I sprayed him up to help the healing process. Most times we use it if they're bleeding from the hook wound - but with small hooks that isn't often an issue.
