This is my first year chasing whites in winter. So far its been hit or miss. Mostly miss. What north Texas lake will I have the easiest time locating them? Im gonna try thumping tomorrow. Any pointers on which lake?

We caught a ton of them at Whitney last weekend on the main lake and in Cedar Creek. With the Bobo Thumper running, they filled up the screen on the Humminbird. Very easy to catch jigging a small blade bait or crappie jig. We caught several doubles with the jig about 18" up the line from the blade bait.

Headed to Tawakoni on Sunday. We will be thumping and looking deep. Using small jigs above slabs drifting with our drift socks at 0.5 mph waiting on that slight thump😃😃

Most folks dead-stick. I still catch them on structures (humps, points, drop-off's, etc.). See my December 2019 posts.

Dennis I have been reading your post for years. I have a boat in Key Ranch. I hear it’s too low to launch.

The lake is 2 ft low - up 6 inches since start of year. Everyone should be able to launch except boats in stalls with 2.5 or less fow when lake is full. All the ramps are OK.

We caught 173 yesterday at whitney, most along the bluffs where the river channel runs close to the bank. Some where just out on a flat in 50 fow. Some suspended and some on bottom. Small slab on bottom with jig above. Slow presentation, not dead stick but short jig up and fall.

Hello, I have never fisher Whitney Lake . Is the boat ramp at Cedar Park public ? . I have tried to call but I'm getting no answer . Thank you .

Lofers bend is open for the winter and is free.
The sandies we caught are full of eggs and it won't be long before they start to disappear.

I skunked today at PK. I NEED some fish! Recon the Whitney fish will hold a couple days?

Thank you . Since I have never fished that lake I was trying to avoid the headaches of closed ramps . Thanks for the advice ,were heading down tomorrow morning , Hopefully we will get lucky . Lake Lavon , Lake Tawakoni and Ray Hubbard are tough fishing right now so I'm willing to drive a little for more action . Thank you .

The area I am talking about is in the top left corner of the snapshot below. Start at the South end where the river channel starts the bend toward the bank, move North, in towards the river and out and scan until you see a few fish, then set up and thump.
The depth should be in the 30+. We caught them as deep as 50fow.

Guy, I just did a video on mapping Ray Hubbard with intention of fishing it on Tues, but cancelled due to weather. You should fish those areas I mapped. I’m hopeful you can catch them tomorrow,

We ended up at Whitney Lake at 6:30 am Sunday morning . We didn't have much luck locating large number of Sand Bass . We went to the location that Steve shared and the Sand bass were in the bottom of the river channel but I don't really like to pull them out of 60-70 ft of water because of the air bladder sticking out of their mouth and I get concerned about the survivability of the ones that we release .
The few keepers we caught were in 40 ft of water between the river channel and the cliffs .
The fish seemed really eager to come to the thumper but we were only catching 8 inchers and smaller with one 16 inch Striper .
I'm glad we went , its a beautiful lake . Hopefully the next time we go we will find more fish .
