How poor are we talking? I think you get more bang for your buck with Garmin. But they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I'd suggest going to a Bass Pro Shop and play with their display models to see which one fits your preferences then try to find a similar used one for sale, good time of year to be looking for that kind of thing.

Wait until whichever company puts a unit on sale that fits your needs. Happens all the time. Garmin Echomap 93sv plus recently on sale for $599. 2d/Mapping/Side/Down in a 9 inch touch screen. They came out with the Ultra series so had to clear out the older models.

Just saw a post in the classifieds. NIB 93sv Chirp for 600. Might check it out. Doubt it lasts long.
