Hey boyz, tell me about how you wacky fish? Do you use specific wacky-hooks? Casting or spinning? How do you set the hook? Reel set or regular hoot-set? I haven't fished wacky much, and wanting to learn more. would like to hear details please.

When I fish a wacky worm I will often get out a package of 2/0 hooks and a bag of trick worms and just set them on the deck. If I hang up I break it off and retie. I don't care for weedless hooks. Usually fish them on spinning gear with 10 pound test. Caught a few Sunday on this rig.

I hate photobucket.

I use spinning reel 8-10lb line, 1/0 or 2/0 circle hook.

Spinning gear or baitcasting, mostly spinning. 40# superline and sometimes with about 3'-4' of 20# fluorocarbon line for weight.
3/0 Octopus or Mosquito hook for Trick worms and 2/0 Octopus or Mosquito hook for finesse worms.
Depends on the potential bass size and cover--the Octopus hook has a heavier wire.

These in timber get the Octopus hook:

I use the weedless hooks and bait caster as I'm just not accurate enough on spinning real. Hook set is the same but seems like usually they take it and run as opposed to a big bite. Gotta watch your line whole time. Bigger bass just take it in their mouth and sit there so hook set on a heavy line. You need different size weights depending on depth as I'll fish wacky in 1 FOW up to 20 or more.

These things get annoying sometimes with that rigging:

Baitcasting 15# P-Line 1/0 straight shank hook with a tad of solder wire wrapped beneath the eyelet. zoom trick worm. don't be shy to try the ugliest colors out there at times. no weed guard fish it in heavy cover, always watch your line and set the hook like a senko

All of the above will work.
Tend to use spinning gear 30lb PP braid to 20ft of 10-12lb copoly or fluoro leader.
Hi vis braid would be great for detecting those really subtle bites.
Doesn't hurt to put a nail in the head of the worm at times.

Found a bunch of 1/0 and 2/0 weedless finesse hooks on clearance last year, and currently liking them a lot.

I use standard equipment for my wacky rigging. Normally a 7'6" rod or longer and a 12 lb test McCoys Mean Green. I do things a little differently than ost. I pout a leader on mine, from 12 to 24 inches and put a swivel on it. A BIG swivel, 1 or 2 ought. That keeps the line from twisting and it gives it enough weight to swim down. Of course, I may be the ONLY one doing something like that, but it works for me. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Senko - Spinning rod with 12 lb. braid to about 15ft of 7lb-12lb fluoro. Size 1 Gammy Brent Ehler stinger hook

Straight tail worms - either a flick shake head or Neko rig w/ Size 1 drop shot hook

More of a pull-set, "lean into em" as Patrick Walters would say
